My goal is to have an HD quality PVR for ATSC broadcasts.
Requirements are:
- works with TitanTV program guide
- ATSC tuner
- HD quality PVR and timeshifting
- 5.1 digital sound
- wake PC for recording
- works with WindowsXP (MCE)
Boards I'm considering:
Macro Image Technology - MyHD MDP-130
Digital Stream HiDTV
DVICO Fusion gold series
My biggest problem is that both my PCI slots are full and I'm only using on-board video and sound right now. I can kick out the 1394 board to free one PCI slot. My CPU and RAM are pretty good and I have USB 2 and 1394 (unless it's sacrificed for the tuner!) I'd prefer HW on the HDTV board to off-load some of the strain.
I'm leaning towards the MyHD board because it seems the most flexible, includes an S/PDIF output, and seems to have a reasonable following. The Digital Stream board looks OK but I don't see much evidence of people using it, and the DVICO board looks like it off-loads too much to the CPU.
I figure it will be best to get the HDTV board first and then see if I need to add anything else to help in the video and audio areas. I don't do any gaming and the audio is only used now for mid to low grade MP3 playback.
Any opions on this?
