PokaPoka / EliteBar spyware removal tool

For those who have been infested with the nasty, difficult to remove Elite Toolbar (pokapoka##.exe), I found a tool that will remove it for you.

    Download it from here: http://users.pandora.be/bluepatchy/m...ools/LQfix.exe

After downloading it, run it. It will install and run a file called BFU.EXE (which stands for Brute Force Uninstaller ). It will then prompt you to reboot. When you reboot, it may take longer than usual to reboot, but what it's doing is removing the spyware before Windows loads.

So, what are the signs one might be infected with the deadly polka polka virus? You have the insaciable urge to dance to the best polka music around, or what?

Actually, it's PokaPoka, so it gives you the urge to do the hokey pokey.

The symptoms on the PC at work included an unwanted toolbar in IE, a process called pokapoka70.exe running in the background, ads popping up on the screen, and stuff being downloaded and installed unbeknownst to the user.

In other words, if you're infected with this nasty, chances are you'll know about it.

BTW, Norton detects as Trojan.Elitebar, but it can't remove it fully. Symantec write-up

ok, that sounds like what my daughter has had on her computer. I'll be on this one.

She's not having the problems with the pops at present, but was. There's a list of stuff that ad Aware can't delete too.

I don't use Norton now, unfortunately my free virus protection is Mcafee, which I don't like as well, but, it's free, so what you gonna do?

I don't use Norton either anymore (though we use the corporate edition at work). I just like the writeups on their site.

Not sure, but sounds similar to what I had at work, but Microsofts anti-spyware program seemed to tame that. I may just run this program just to destroy it if it's there. Thanks for the link.
