    Samsung DLP

Thinking of buying the Samsung DLP. Anybody heard any problems/concerns with this model? Any help would be appreciated.

    Which model in particular?

DLP's do have a couple drawbacks, though the newer (especially the more expensive, high end models) are overall, quite nice. Samsung's been making them the longest and have been doing a pretty good job so far

Well the "63's" have the newer HD3 chip which should give you better black levels over the older models but if you can wait about a month and have a bit of space in your budget you may want to consider one of the "74's" that will have the HD2+ chip with even better contrast/black levels and detail.

Is there a reason you're going for specifically a DLP set over a less expensive and better PQ, CRT based RPTV?

I am not sure if I have the room to have a crt based machine. My tv will have to sit in a built in cabinet in the wall. I am not sure of the dimensions, but I was under the impression that if I was to try to get a crt of say 46" that it would have to be floorstanding (which I can't do). Is that true?

I believe there's some under 50" CRT's out there that are "table top". Have a look at the big companies pages and see what they have

              Samsung DLP Follow Up ?

Am a true newbie in looking for a DLP. Am replacing a CRT in the corner of our LR and have been very pleased with the DLPs I have seen (Samsung, etc.) I have noticed the forum comments noting Samsung's track record with DLP and wondered if that is a reasonable choice? Any help would be appreciated.

Take a look at the Misubishi 52705 if it fits in your budget. It has the HD2+ chip, which is better than the HD3 chip.

The Mits are great looking, but I ended up getting a Sony LCD since I didn't want to deal with the rainbow effect some can see. Knowing me, I would see it and it would bug the crap out of me. Also, the viewing angles were worse on the DLPs compared to the LCDs. Think about the angles in where the TV will be in your house. Sure you will be looking head on at the showroom, but look at from different angles. Plasmas had the best viewing angles, but they are more expensive.

                  Good luck!

Given that the 1080P versions are coming, I'd be real cautious about buying a DLP right now.

I really wanted the Samsung 50" DLP pedestal tv because of the slick design, but I got discouraged because 2 of the 3 dealers I went to could not show me the picture quality because they were broken down. The one I saw seemed to have a nice enough picture but I ended up going for the Hitachi sv810 lcd projector because it was equally attractive and had a more detailed picture.
Plus there are less moving parts to break down in lcd tv's.

samsung makes a great dlp the new 46 and 56 models are just coming out with the cable card slot. although it would be nice to wait for the 1080p models they seem to be delaying them or thats what the samsung rep told me take that for what it is worth and happy viewing

My buddy has narrowed down his choices of a 16:9 TV set to either a 50 inch Samsung DLP or a 50 inch Hitachi LCD rear Projection - both sets are about 22 inches in depth and after negotiation are both in the same $2,500 price point. He's been roaming the net a bit and everyone seems to be suggesting...

I am currently in the market for a widscreen tv. I have narrowed it down to 2 now, the 50 Sony Grand Wega LCD RP and the 50 Samsung DLP RP (HLM507W). I have seen both and they both look really good, picture quality is impressive on both. Both are around the same price. I like the DLP better than the...

Ok, my wife and I have been long talking about finaly upgrading from our 8 year old 32" tube to a 46" rear projection or something to that degree. Based on size approx 44" wide and height 41" I settled on a Toshiba 46H84 and the world was great. Then today we get to looking again...
