Problems with my Samsung dlp HDTV

Im hoping someone can help me with a problem i am having with my Samsung Dlp projection HDTV. Hopefully i uploaded the jpg properly and the issue is clearly visible.

On the left hand side of the screen from the top to the bottom you should be able to see a 1-2" thick shadow where the picture is darker than the rest of the screen. you can still see the picture underneath this shadow but it is as if someone put a visor on just that area.

has anyone ever see or experience anything like this?

    please let me know!!!!

It's in the mirrors. Sorry I couldn't help that one.

Looks like you are suffering from what is called a partial light engine "tunnel" collapse.
There is no consumer fix, the issue requires a light engine replacement. Are you still within your warranty period? If so, this is about a 30-minute repair job.

    Peace and blessings,

      what causes this?

      Azeke,

do you have any idea what could have caused something like that? could it have caused by moving the TV?

also i am not still covered under warranty, do you think this is an expensive fix?

and will not fixing it leed to a deterioration of the problem?

      thanks for the help

What I've read is that the light passes through a square tunnel that has mirrors glued to the inside. Apparently, the glue breaks down and the mirrors can shift position so as to block the light. Your light engine is self contained and sits on a sliding tray. It takes very little loosing of screws, wire harnesses, and such to slide it back away from the tunnel. This will let you look to see what's going on. You don't need special tools and the tray should fit back precisely.

The light engine assembly itself is pretty expensive, but you'd have to look up the price to know for sure.

Read here for a lot more info on the light tunnel/engine.
