BAM! you can use the tuner in a VCR as a channel-controller for TVs that don't have them - or as a second tuner for picture-in-picture capable TVs that only have one tuner..

I don't think it really makes much difference from one to the other. The biggest difference in VCR's is regular VHS and S-VHS. Other than that buying a model from a well known company will likely get you higher quality components overall but VCR's are pretty much at the end of their lives, in fact why are you even buying one?

Some years ago Panasonic made VCR's that where known for high quality tuners. They did infact made "world wide" models where the tuner could be used in all parts of the world. Not to be mistaken by the ability to play all kinds of tapes (NTSC, PAL, SECAM, MESECAM, etc)
