I'm surprised you use max lamp mode. My Z2 is running on low lamp mode with the iris fully opened and it's more than bright enough. Also max mode will shorten your lamp life. What's the gain of your screen, do you have control of the rooms lighting? Last but not least has your Z2 been calibrated with AVIA or DVE?

I really wouldn't mess with the fans in the Z2. Swapping them out with other fans could result in less air flow and cause redused lamp life or overheating. Your best bet is to use low lamp mode. High lamp mode is too loud for most people and I agree very distracting.

My gain on the Luma from Drapper probably has .09 gain (not sure).
I like a bright picture - I do not mind that it shortens the lamp life. I have control over the lighting for I watch mostly at night. I did calibrate but still too dark

I find that it does not have that punch of colours when it's full blast.

Thanks for the advice about swapping fans (but I am no fool )
I am looking for less db and the same flow of air or better for I do it on my PC
(overclock) and I keep it very cool -- the secret is better fans

        thanks for the advice (Bam)

          Cadman,
I never implied that you were a fool.

Based on your comments even on full blast (I assume you mean high lamp mode) the colors lack punch. If that's the case then even with quieter fans you'll still have a picture that does not have the punch or brightness you want, but will be quieter. Maybe another member can offer help with the fan replacement, but based on your punch/full balst comment it sounds like you have a screen problem.

If I'm not mistaken the luma screens come in matte white and grey and range from .08 for a HC grey and 1.0 for a matte white. If your screen is grey and .08 gain then you have a very dark negative gain screen. This kind of screen will lack punch, reduce brightness, and make sunny days seem a bit overcast compared to positive gain screen, but give REALLY good blacks . If this is the type of screen you have then a positive gain screen like a Dalite HCCV or HCMW which are light grey screens with a 1.1 gain would give you the punch and increase the brightness.

Well thanks Legairre for the reply
the screen is grey (and I have no problem with the fool stuff heheheh)
and when I put the Z2 full blast its ok but could be better .
