    sanyo plv-z2 - benq pb6200

    Hello guys,
from reading all these topics on the z2, I can get the idea that
it is an excellent choice, but could someone please tell me where it
stands in comparison with the benq 6200?
The price difference (in europe at least) is too small to be taken
    into consideration.
Also to inform that it will be used both for dvd's and games (pc/xbox)
and that there is no problem with rainbow effects.
In general I have a very high degree of tolerance. 8)

Thank you very much both for reading this post and for all the info
you have posted so far, in all those topics, which was extremely useful.

    theobabis!

    Welcome!

While the Z2 is a great choice....the only thingy I'd like to add....is BenQ doesn' t seem to have the same reputable after sales service of Sanyo.....

I' m not saying not to buy BenQ....but it's what I hear from my dealer who does sell the BenQ....but when he can choose to sell something else he does....
    Anyways just my 2 cents!
Got a nice rack to show me ?

The Sanyo also has HD resolution. Its 16:9 widescreen panel is 1280 x 720 whereas the BenQ is a 4:3 XGA projector with a resolution of 1024 x 768, which will be 1024 x 576 when in widescreen mode. So if you will be watching a lot of HDTV material you may want the extra resolution of the Sanyo. Though I own an NEC HT1000 which is an XGA PJ like the BenQ, and it does a respectable job on high definition material. If most of what you will be watching is movies on dvd, then you will be quite happy with the BenQ.

        Bam!, George Bellefontaine,

thank you very much for your answers.

First, let me inform that the projector will be
bought either from France, or Germany, since in
my country (Greece) they cost approx $700 more.
This means that I will have to send the sanyo
back, if something happens, while for the benq,
I'm still waiting for an answer.
Under these conditions, after sales service is
of no great importance at the moment (unless
of course, you believe I'm not taking something
into account which I should... ).

Second, since both of you did not give a clear cut
answer, I tend to the conclusion that whichever I
take I will be totally satisfied and that is a very
        relaxing thought. :T

So, if this is the case, let me change the perception
angle a little and ask which one you believe is the most
universal. That is, which one will keep the less friends
dissatisfied. Not on the level "don't like" but on the
level of "I cannot play, watch" because of rainbow, or
any other cause that can appear on the images.
Hope I'm not totally incomprehensible.

HDTV? lol... possibly in a decade ...

P.S. Funny...while checking the above text,
I got the feeling that if I had written it in my native
language I would have made much more spelling
        mistakes...

The Sanyo Z2 does not have any rainbow effect whatsoever, because it's an LCD projector - only the DLP's create a rainbow effect.

...and I might add...not many people suffer from problems with rainbows...It is very rare....

When I am on a white screen and there are letters or a picture of some sort and I pause it...I can see Rainbows...other than that...can`t see them...

            Anyways just my 2 cents...

              Paul H, Bam!,
thanks again for the answers and I'm sorry for
              not being clear enough.

So, let me please rephrase. Yes dlp have the problem
of rainbow, but lcd's have the vertical banding.
So the question is, since there is no chance that I
will have any problem, is one of them more probable
to happen with my friends, or as many complain for
the one also complain for the other?

All I can give you is my own experience. All I have done is read about DLPs, no real world experience, or cartoon world!

I do on the other hand own a Studio Experience 2HD (Sanyo Z2 equiv.). I can tell you that the picture is great. I see no vertical banding (whatever that is), and I see no screen door on it. It's a great projector.

I do see a little screen door sometimes on my 4:3 View Sonic. It is a much lower scaled projector quality wise. But I have noticed you must get sensitized to that after a while, because I have not noticed it hardly at all in the last few months.

I read several posts regarding vertical banding on Z2's last fall, but have not seen any (posts) since. I don't have any vb on my PJ.

                      cadman,
In these cases, if you don't know, better not ask...

I'm lucky enough not to know either... 8)

                        Cadman,

The vertical banding was apparently visible vertical bands or streaks that were brighter than the rest of the picture.

I say apparently because I didn't see it on mine - and I was looking hard for it when I first set it up.

I am also deciding between the Sanyo Z2 and the Benq pb6200. I am leaning toward the Z2 despite a price (after rebate) of $600 more than the 6200.

I wonder how the brightness of the Z2 compares with the 6200 in video mode. I heard that lumen ratings often refer to presentation mode and a typical brightness for watching video would be about 50% less.

I will be using the projector for showing video (mostly of one person speaking) to an audience of 20-100 people. The showings will be at various locations, so I will not always have a completely dark room.

One problem I have had with older lcd projectors is the rgb convergence went out of alignment over time. I wonder if this can happen with a new projector if it travels occasionally.

                            Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.
