Latest News on Sony's SXRD PJ

Sony has announced it will be available to consumers this winter at around $10,000. US. That's quite a difference from the guessed at figure of $20 to $30,000. Wonder what happened. This was supposed to be a high end replacement for their VPH90G crt.

The release states that a Carl Zeiss optical zoom lens will also be available to meet all room requirements. Does this mean the lens will be sold separately. They don't mention price of the lens.

    A cautionary note:
I picked this info up on another well known PJ site. It did not show a link and I could not find a news release at the Sony International site, so maybe this is all just a cruel hoax.

The Toshiba's also have the Carl Zeiss lenses. So they can't be that much!

I wonder Toshiba FPTV's aren't that popular. They sure have great specs and components. I have to ask ,being a huge Toshiba fan myself. :P

          Relax Trev...I'm just Joshing

I think if that projector hits that price mark...it should be incredible what will be available in 2005 when I'm ready to jump into the projector market.

Even yester-years hi-end technology wil be afforable and look remarkable when compared to what I use now. Heck my tv screen ain't even flat so it's all a matter of perspective and what side of the shitter you approach from

Well it now appears this so-called news release was a hoax. The only Sony SXRD is the Qualia at $30 Gs. Too bad because this would really have shaken up the projector market had it been true. Are you listening, Sony ?

              I know!

But I wonder why Toshiba FPTV's are not popular.
They use some pretty high quality components.

George, that's too bad about the hoax..
I had a future vision of you upgrading! :yesnod:

SXRD + ISF Calibration = WOW
                  by htsteve
I recently took delivery of a 50" Sony SXRD TV. I had it ISF calibrated yesterday. The TV was pretty good out of the box. I adjusted the user controls a bit and got the picture good looking. Then came the ISF calibration. Turns out the TV was at about 10000 kelvin (standard is 6500). Once that...

                  Acoustic Lens

An acoustic lens refers to a device or structure designed to manipulate the direction, dispersion, or focusing of sound waves. The term is inspired by the concept of optical lenses used in optics to manipulate light. The primary purpose of an acoustic lens is to modify the propagation characteristics of sound waves, enabling control over their distribution and spatial behavior. Acoustic lenses can be implemented in various forms, including physical structures, signal processing...

For those of you who don't get out to the busier projector forums much, Sony is shortly releasing a new "budget" 1920x1080 SxRD projector, a "baby brother" to the Ruby nicknamed the Pearl, but actually called the VPL-VPW50 .

Differences are it's size (~1/4 or so smaller),...
