Panasonic L300U on the way. :)

Well, I couldn't take it anymore so I ordered the projector for my family room HT. I wonder what my wife will think? I'm hooked on FPTV.

Congrats Rick...I was going to the get Panny, but given my room (front soffit location) it would hang down into the room too far! That's why I went with the Sanyo Z1 since it had the lense shift feature...let us know what you think!

And enjoy sleeping on that soffa!

Burke, I explained to my wife that the room will open up when we take the 36" TV out of the room for the projector. The sofa is comfortable.

E, I'm used to the power zoom and powered lens shift with my current projector.........I like anything that can be controlled with a remote  .

The TheaterTek software DVD player I use has great aspect ratio control as well as digital picture shift and blanking features. This should help out with placement.

I'll let you know how it looks when it arrives.

You made a pretty good choice there, Rick. I have read many good things about that projector, particlularly the fact that it has very little visible screendoor for an lcd projector.

Well, the 300 is hanging where the Sharp used to be for comparison, and the Panasonic may stay there for the reduced fan noise alone........This thing is dead quiet.......I can hear my HTPC behind a closed plexi glass door now.....but, not the projector.

I haven't had much time to compare but will in the coming days. Here is a short story on how I cheaped out on a ceiling mount.

Well, last night I was thinking of ways to ceiling mount my L300u. I went to the hardware store and bought some 4mm bolts/nuts/washers and figured I could rig something up. The more I looked at it and how lite the unit is I decided to go to my local camera shop and look for a tripod mount. I found a mini tripod and mounted it to the 300 then drilled holes through the feet of the tripod and screwed it to some 3/4" MDF I had laying around from my sub project...............total cost $22.95 usd. This gives me full adjustment of the projector. My wife isn't that crazy about it....she said the $500.00 mount for the Sharp projector looked better.

Rick surely one of your contact could weld up a quick mounting plate for you? Nice to hear you like the 300...the 200's got my eye at the moment as its supposed to be quiet as well (I hate fan noise)

                          What an innovative idea! 8)

Maybe I'll try that with my little NEC DLP FPTV.

                              Thanks guys!

The more I looked at the projector and the mounting holes the tripod mount hole built right into the projector seemed like the best way to go. Also, makes for very quick disconnect if you want to take the projector with you.

If you had a finished ceiling I would just use some butterfly style hollow wall anchors.

                                Tracking Down a Problem

I have been setting everything up with the new L300U projector which 98% of the time I use a HTPC. Last night I tried the component video from my Panasonic RP91 DVD player and in interlaced mode it looked great the the projector displayed "525i".

I then pushed the progressive output button on the front of the DVD player and the projector showed it as "525P". The problem was the picture was full of moving scan lines and blocky video. I swapped the cables for another set I have and reproduced the same result.

I have had this DVD player for quite awhile but my previous projector would not accept progressive component video. I used the HTPC mainly. the projector works excellent through the VGA input and I couldn't be happier.

Do you think the projector is the problem............if it is I will return it under warranty. Any help or input would be very much appreciated.

                                Thanks

Well, the projector is fine!!! The Panasonic RP91 DVD player is screwed in progressive mode. I have had this player for almost two years and have never tried the progressive mode because my Sharp FPTV did not accept progressive component. This player may have been like this from day one........I wonder if Panasonic will help out with warranty. Hmmmm
