    Hitachi 42" plasma - GREAT!

Just picked up a Hitachi 42" plasma from CC (model 42HDS69). One day sale last Saturday, @$300 LESS than current BB and CC SALE price. Native 1081i (Not 768!!) display. Really classy look - brushed aluminum surrounding the black-bordered glass plasma panel - elegant and way better than the cheap plastic you see on other plasmas (i.e., Panny). Excellent picture out of the box, but after tweaking per reviews/forum posts/calibration DVD, picture is truly stunning. On a good DVD, it really is like lookng through a (clean) window. Much better PQ than my 3-year old Hitachi 51" RPTV, which was very higly rated at the time. Sound from internal speakers is also better than most (not that I would use the internal speakers for critical movie watching).

    HIGHLY recommended.

One recommendation: do NOT rely on the store TV setups for deciding which set to purchase - I looked at four stores over the weekend, and upon more than a cursory look, it was obvious NONE of the TVs were properly set up. Worse, the SAME set looked vastly different at each store.

The 1080p vertical res is great but aren't they still 1024 horizontal res? Regardless, I'm glad you're happy with it's performance :T

Sadly that's too true with in store sets

True, this specific Hitachi plasma is "only" 1024x1080, but with 1,055,920 pixels, it beats most of today's plasmas at 1024x768 (804,864 pixels) and LCDs at 1366x768 (1,049,088). Plus, plasmas can display more subtle color variations than LCDs, and are less subject to blurring when displaying fast motion. All in all, I am very happy with my choice.

        by Mitchell
I just came back from looking at tvs at J&R Music in NYC. I was looking for at the Sharp 37 and 42" LCD which are pricey and the salesman suggested looking at plasmas. He said that the Plasma Burn-in issue was largely solved using tech. nology that rotated pixels, put grey bars on the sides...

        LCD vs. Plasma?
        by BKSinAZ
I was wondering which would be a better picture?

Other than construction, what would be some of the differences?

I ask these questions because I have a very tight budget of only $2200.00 to spend on a television and want the biggest bang for my buck. I have been looking...

        Plasma Question
        by mjgeorge
This is a plasma burn-in question. I know that most people say that modern plasma sets have overcome the burn-in problem, but does this require that the sets always use the justify modes that stretch the image to fill the screen?

I have seen some really good prices on Panasonic plasmas...

        Hitachi 42HDX99 Plasma
        by Azeke
        Good evening everyone,

My wife and I have just purchased the Hitachi 42HDX99 Plasma (Director Series) for a deal we couldn't refuse ($799.00 out of box model). This set is beautiful both aesthetically and via video (D*TV Discovery HD), although it's only 720p, I would highly recommend...

Plasma vs LCD in NY Times
        by Mitchell
I saw an article in the NY Times that mentioned that LCD's are growing in popularity in relation to Plasma and tht the LCd's are getting better, bigger and cheaper. LCD research has increased dramatically and new plants are being built. They are expected to outsell plasmas as well.
