    Grand Wega 42" LCD RPTV

    Hey,

I sort of stumbled across another set that would fit into our bedroom armoire. Before, I was thinking either a 37" panny plasma, 40" Bravia (non-XBR), 37" Sharp, or 40" Samsung. But I spotted a 42" Grand Wega, that fits the dimensional criteria. Since I have over 14" of depth, I don't necessarily need a flat panel display. Plus it's under $2K (vs. 3200-3500), that way I could easily swing a BEV HD receiver. Any thoughts on this display?

    Thanks,

    Ken

Its not bad, a little pixilated for my taste.... even for a 42. Also Im not sure if youre aware, but Samsung did make a 42 DLP. Its a great "little" tv. Its the older model, but you can still buy it at Best Buy, I know I work there. The model is HLR 4266.... so its a solid case, opposed to the 67s which have that split in them...

    Sony is 28 1/2'' high, and 39 3/8'' wide.
And the Samsung, is 29 3/4'' high and 39 3/8'' for the width....

So IF hight isnt the issue, id go with the Sammy, but that Aquous does look good, even for an LCD
IMO DLP have a better picture, and they are "cheap"

If you like the picture and the price, that's what matters. Try to watch some fast motion in a darkened room on the set first though to ensure the black levels and motion-smear aren't an issue for you

        Thanks guys,

I stopped by Future Shop and looked at both sets. The Samsung had a "mottled" look, that really bothered me. I think the Sony looked better, so off I went to another store. They offered the 42" Wega LCD projection for around 2K. Not a bad deal but I was seduced by the 40" Bravia and 40" Samsung again :M . $3K would get me either one.......I think I'll wait until income tax refund time and get the flat one and a BEV HD rx.

The 40" Bravia is really a nice set.
          Also the 40" Bravia XBR.
I think those 2 are on the top of my list for the bedroom.
The 37" Pana Plasma is also one to consider.

            back and forth........back and forth

I just looked at the 42" Grand Wega at the local Sony Store, and it looked damn good, certainly good enough for a bedroom. HD hockey was very sweet, and SD was tolerable.

The panels are sure sexy, but it's in an armoire and the sexiness wouldn't be fully appreciated. Plus a thousand bucks less is sexy too. I just have to convince wifey that we need to get a "shared" Christmas present.....where did I put that hammer (for the old TV not the Mrs.)

Trevor, go for the 40" XBR it is spectacular!

:agree: Both the 42A10 and the 40XBR-1 are awesome units. If it is not going in the wall I would not spend the extra money on the XBR-1. Do not get me wrong it is a darn nice display! ;x(

For me it is the Quaility Per $$$. I would spend the 1800 on the 42A10 and have the rest to spend some place else. But that is just me.

Either one of those displays will do you well.

By the way.....the XBR-1 is selling like hot cakes! The closer you get to Christmas the less chance you are going to have to get one. Sears and CC are sold out down here, and the only place that has them is 30 miles away. They also know that they are the only ones that have it, and are selling at MSRP and higher! 8O

The 42A10 will do you very well in the bedroom!
The Bitterness of poor quality last longer than the joy of low prices.

I have just been contemplating the 42A10 and I thought the pic was great for 1800 bucks and the size. I think it would great for a bedroom or small TV room.

I reckon I'll add a little more about my new Samsung F86 (T4665F in NA).

I recently purchaced a new(ish) 40" 1080p Samsung. When I purchaced I informed the salesman that I wanted a set that was 24p compatible. Anyhow, I was told the Samsung was. Later I found the set needed a...

                  DLP vs LCD
                  by DSGCobra
I am currently in the market for a widscreen tv. I have narrowed it down to 2 now, the 50 Sony Grand Wega LCD RP and the 50 Samsung DLP RP (HLM507W). I have seen both and they both look really good, picture quality is impressive on both. Both are around the same price. I like the DLP better than the...
