    Doing it in the bathroom!

LCD TV that is.................Has anyone here installed a LCD TV/monitor in their bathroom? My concern is about moisture (steam) from the shower. Does this affect LCDs? Do you have any suggestions as to which units are best used here or how best to install a unit to avoid damage.

    Thanx.

My father-in-law has had a small TV in his bathroom for years and has never had a problem with it at all, now his wife on the other hand does!!

        I couldnt resist :B
Seriously though, I have seen a few LCD screens in the new homes they are building around here. They tend to put them up high and recessed in a small alcove, I would guess that if you have great ventilation the steam may not be a factor. But if you dont, the steam would be cause for concern IMO.

I have a small LCD TV installed on a corner shelf above/next to my bathtub. When I installed it, I pretty much accepted that its service life would be shortened due to use in the bathroom environment. Issues with bathroom install:

          1. Service life will probably be shortened by the humidity, but shouldn't otherwise be a problem.

          2. Make sure it's not in a spot where it can directly come in contact with water

          3. Extra safety precautions must be taken with electronics in bathrooms. Make sure it's plugged into a GFI safety outlet.

          4. Also, make sure it is tethered securely to not fall in the tub or such.

          5. Consider the use of a remote control in the bathroom. I bought a waterproof, floating remote control called the "Dolphin" from Balboa Instruments. It's perfect--also does RF, learning, etc.

Interesting timing on this topic. Just ordered a Philips 15" LCD with built-in FM radio for our bathroom...at my wife's request! She gets up earlier than me and wanted something to watch/listen to while getting ready for work.

Fine with me. Don't think humidity will be much of a problem either since shower is enclosed in its own space (with door).

As part of the pre-cautions I've also thought about replacing the shower curtains with a door too.

Thanx Chris for the advice. I have been installing plasmas and such part time so it would be a darn shame if I let this one fall ops:

Good reco. on the remote I'll see if I can get it here too.

You could put it in an environmental enclosure. Probably a little overkill provided you have adequate ventilation. It would also be ugly unless you could recess it in the wall.

I have installed them in bathrooms, and momma is making me install on in our bath this weekend. Chris had very good points about safety. Most (key word most) codes in many states require that outlets in the bathroom be on a GFI circuit. Every outlet in my bathroom is on a GFI circuit even if the plug itself is not a gfi.

                  the second most important thing
It is in the bathroom. No need to go crazy here. No Sony XBR, Sharp Aquos. etc. Something nice and not a lot of money is what I recomend. I got Momma a 20 inch Westinghouse. Minteck, Magnavox, and a few others would be perfect for the bathroom.

                      Bathroom TV up and running!

Okay, just for fun, I've posted a few pics that I just snapped of the Philips 15" LCD flat panel I just installed in our bathroom (X-max present for the wife). Cool thing about this model is that it also has FM radio, so you can just listen to tunes, if you want.

Main view is from bathtub, with other shots for detail. Bracket is a simple Sanus brand (mounted on stud), which just tilts up and down.

Nice very nice. We've looked at a couple units this week of course we decided to wait for the boxing week sales to look into this. I agree, We are gonna go with a brand called Koa at BB. (not too expensive) 27" for the bedroom and the 14" version for the bathroom/s.

                            Thanks for posting :T

I've been wanting to install a small television in the master bathroom that could be viewed from the tub or while someone is getting ready at the sink. I just bought a small 13" LCD flatscreen TV from Sharp to accomplish this, but don't want to rush into anything stupid before I install it. I'm...

I picked up the BD version of Payback this weekend. It was on my short list. I loved the original, had to have high def. Mel is so tough and raw, he played this part to a tee. I loved it. Certainly, he's a good tough guy anyway, but to me, Payback was one of his toughest roles ever.

I am posting this to document my DIY constrained layer technique for cabinet walls. New cabinet construction is shown here but you could add it to an existing cabinet if the front panel is removable.

I wanted to try constrained layer construction because the 1.7 cubic foot, 3/4" wall...
