    Seeking 37"-40" LCD/Plasma Screens

    Well,
    Originally I was looking to invest in a 32" LCD.
    Now I realize that with the space I have available onto the
    the wall where the 32" screen was going to be mounted,
    I have room for a little bigger.
    So, now I am seeking to invest into a 37" LCD or Plasma.

    I have narrowed down my options.
    Here they are.
    * 37" Panasonic Plasma TH37PX50
    * 37" Toshiba LCD 37HLX95
    * 37" LG LCD 37LP1D
    * 37" Sharp LCD LC37D6U/LC37D7U
    (not sure the difference between the 2 models.
    I could also sneek in one of these 40" models
    into the space I have available.
    * 40" Sony LCD KDLV40XBR1
    * 40" Samsung LCD LNR409D

    Right now, I would be leaning towards the 37" Panasonic Plasma or
    the 37" Toshiba. I could get either for $2,999 CDN or lower.
    So , any suggestions?
    Any reason I should be looking closer at any of the others besides
    the Panasonic or Toshiba.
    Thanks,
    Trevor

    Yeah the Sony 40 Inch XBR is the Freaking HEAT! That darn thing is awesome!

    My 2 recomendations:

    1. If money is a HUGE factor....Panny Plasma no debate.
    2. If you can swing it...Sony 40 Inch XBR.
    The Bitterness of poor quality last longer than the joy of low prices.

      Trevor,

      The Sharp USA website only has the 7DU not both like, dot ca. It should be a fair assumption that the 7 is a newer '06 model, right? I think I mentioned it your 32" thread that this newer generation has wicked blacks, unlike previous models. I'm going to do a head-to-head with the Panny 37" Plasma and then decide. The dealer, here in Sudbury, has both and seems to favour the Sharp.

      "The gap between Plasma and LCD has closed with the newer '06 model", is what he said. Remember that the BB and FS of the world are not carrying this top-shelf model.

      Good Luck, and let us know what you decide. That Bravia looks sweet too, I saw a 32" last week. I don't know if I hold Sony in as high esteem as before though, they seem to be focussing more on gaming. Just my .02 for what it's worth.

        Snap!
        Price for the Sony is $4,499
        I still have to see one set-up and tuned in with HD
        to get a true feel if it would be worth the extra $1,500.

        Ken,,
        The Sharp indicated is without the speakers on the side.
        The speaker runs across the bottom. I have only seen the
        26" model of this particular Sharp so far.
        They just opened up a piano black 37" model though, with side speakers.
        I will have to have a look at it though in order to judge the quality of picture..

        To me, the LCD's are definately brighter. I just love how vibrant the whites are.
        However, I do see that grey foggy, muddy look on dark scenes with LCD.
        I don't see that on the Plasma.
        BTW,,I got the info off the CDN webpage..They could be different color variations
        ,therefore the difference in model #'s, but not sure.

          There a 3 Sharp models; Silver (speakers on side), Piano Black ( speakers on side), and Titanium (speakers on bottom). I saw a 32" Titanium, and I have to say the blacks did not have that mottled blotchy look. You'll have to see it. I don't think the Bravia is worth the extra dough. Maybe if it did 1080P, but it doesn't. I think the Sharp 40" do.

            The Sharp 40" is actually a 45" I believe and yes it does 1080p
            I had seen it. The image was too soft looking on the display.
            BTW , the price was $9,999 CDN :E

            I will have to have a lok at the 37" piano black to
            analyze the picture quality. It would likely be the same as the
            other 2 models with just a different casing.
            The model with the speaker on the bottom is a much nicer looking
            unit to me in terms of cosmetics.
            I just haven't see the 37" version of it yet.
            However I am sure it could be ordered in if they don't
            have it by now. 2006 models I guess.
