    The 71SA1D, LG’s 71-inch LCoS HDTV

"LCoS, or Liquid Crystal on Silicon, has been taking its own sweet time emerging as an alternative to DLP and plasma, but LG introduced their very first LCoS HDTV today, a massive new 71-inch, 1080p display called the 71SA1D. This beast has a 3500:1 contrast ratio, HDMI, a built-in ATSC tuner, a 9-in-2 flash memory card reader, and is CableCARD-ready. No mention yet of a price or a US release date."

I hope I can afford it.

    Any thoughts?

    Best regards,

JVC also has a 70" LCoS model as well that's supposed to be quite nice, with a VERY bright picture (though that does effect black level).

It has an MSRP of $6995 if that's any help  IMO at that size and price you'd be better off with a projector and getting an even bigger picture. For ~$7g you could get a pretty nice projector/screen/light control

LCoS is certainly an interesting and impressive technology but until someone figures out how to build them in huge numbers, succesfully and cheaply.... they'll be a bit player IMO.

Understood, Jason. I currently own a projector/screen and I am upgrading to HDef in the next year or so, probably via DLP. I am waiting for D*TV upgrade to MPEG 4 compression via consumer hardware, as well as, having my finances in order.

I'm really just dreaming more or less and ensuring that I am not eliminating any possibities. I have heard that they have a new glass manufacturing process, which will not only cut the cost, but provide a larger and better overall picture.

      I digress.

For sure they're a great option for bright rooms with little to no light control... for the well heeled anyways

Think well-off executive/lawyer/actor/athlete with a nice bright living room with floor to ceiling windows  GREAT display for that
