Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) FPTV (Hitachi)

    Hitachi CPSX5600W 1500 ANSI LUMEN 1365X1024 HDTV

Using Hitachi''s advanced LCOS technology, the CP-SX5600W packs high resolution SXGA+ capability and outstanding image quality into a portable projector that competes head on for value with XGA models. Class leading video performance comes from LCOS''s high contrast ratio and high response speed, to which are added Hitachi''s motion adaptive progressive scan, black level enhancement and noise reduction. The CP-SX5600W takes flexibility and ease of use to new levels with multiple computer and video inputs including DVI and component video, plus great new features like horizontal keystone correction and convenient panel input selection.
    Features

    1800 ANSI lumens
LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) Technology
    5.6 kg (12.4 lbs)

Actually, I've heard a bit of good scuttlebutt (nothing too much) about LCOS pictures.

Obvious question here would just be the cost of this unit... probably just another component I'd love to have but can't afford for another 40 years.

Wait, wait, wait... SXGA resolution for only $6K US? Hmmm... something doesn't compute. Perhaps we need some reviews of LCOS to find out more. (of course, it's 4:3 again, so if you display a 16:9 image the usable pixels are only 1365x768, which happens to be WXGA)

I haven't heard much on LCOS and it actually caught my attention when I came across the Toshiba LCOS RPTV.

It sounds like a great technology ,especially when you can use 1080p resolutions.

LCOS may be the way of the Future.

The only negative things I have read about LCOS so far is a less than desired contrast and poor black levels, and very noisy fans. But I am sure, like lcd and dlp, that each newer model will get better in this regard.
Certainly one of the best features of LCOS is a great fill factor in pixels, making for a smoother screen image.
That does seem like an awfully good price on that Hitachi. But I would really want to see this PJ well demoed before laying out that kind of bread.
