    Toshiba 50H81 Speakers stopped working!

I've had the 50H81 for over 2 years now and it's never given me any problems. I have my cable box setup to play through both the TV speakers and the Stereo receiver. Tonight, I noticed that within the last day, the TV speakers no longer play anything. I hooked up my Xbox to a different audio/video port on the TV and the problem is identical. This means it's definitely a TV problem.

This TV has 2 regular speakers. It also has a subwoofer which is controlled by the SBS (sub-bass system). I can still hear the subwoofer working, so I know the signal is going through the TV.

Since the problem happens on multiple inputs and is limited to the main speakers, I assume that there is some device inside that needs to be replace or something like a fuse. I have no idea where to go from here. Any advice?

Check in your setup menu that you or someone else didn't accidently turn off the sets speakers. After that you basically have to contact Toshiba (if still under warranty) and/or a local authorized repair shop.

Correction, I only have 2 speakers. There is no separate subwoofer.

Tonight, I tried plugging my ipod into the front AV jacks (Video 3) and I had the same problem. I then removed the 2 speakers and hooked them directly to my stereo and they play fine. So now I know the speakers haven't gone bad. I checked all the settings in the Menu, including turning the Subwoofer (SBS) feature off and I used the "Reset" option within the Audio menu. The same problem still occurs.

I believe that I have 2 possible solutions from here. 1 - find a way to do a total reset of the TV and hope that something got screwed up in the settings. 2 - replace some piece of hardware that controls the regular sound to the speakers (remember that the bass sound coming from the SBS seems to be working).

If anyone can give me any help on how to do either 1 or 2, I would greatly appreciate it. Or if you have any other ideas, please let me know. Is there not something as simple as a fuse that controls the audio that could be changed?

I just thought of another troubleshooting idea. I took my ipod and connected it to the front Video 3 inputs again. Then on the back of the TV, there is an RCA audio out, that I connected to my stereo. The ipod played perfectly through the stereo, but the TV speakers were still dead.

The volume on the TV is about 10 clicks higher than normal.
I've turned the Mute on, which shows up on the screen and then turned it off.
I've gone through all the settings that I could find in the menu and the speakers seem to be setup correctly. I've even flip flopped most of the settings with no change.

Solved! There was a switch on the back of my TV called "Center Channel" which somehow got turned On. The Time warner guy was working on my cable setup when this all started. Oh well at least that was it.

I do have one small question/problem. The wires that went to my 2 speakers were like this:

          Left: White & Black
          Right: Gray & Brown

Does anyone know which color is positive and which is negative? I can't believe that I didn't pay attention when I took them apart.

Black is likely negative but can't say for sure

I bought a house that had a dedicated theatre in it, but the owners took the projector, screen, receiver, as well as 2 free standing side speakers and the subwoofer. Hi All,
When I installed the home theatre in the family room my wife was pretty flexible except for two things. 1) No wires visible 2) no speakers or subwoofer on the floor. To met this requirements I used Jamo THX D6 speakers that are wall mounted and the Jamo 15" SW-3015 servo subwoofer...

can my amp drive 4 ohm speakers?

Definately a noob question here, but I am trying to determine if my Nak AV8 can handle speakers rated at 4ohms, and if so how many can it handle.

Right now I have 2 8ohm speakers attached to it, but I am considering a DIY HT project to build a new set of 4ohm main speakers (a subwoofer...
