I finally made the time to call in Tech repairs for the Vertical white line problem that plauges the Toshiba RPTV.
The white line problem is a faint vertical white line at about centre of the screen. It is approximately 10-15mm thick and runs the entire length of the screen. It is one of those things that is not visable unless the screen is mostly white or green. Actually the only times I have seen it is during hockey games, and the odd football game. It's one of those things that you can trick your eyes into seeing all the time, or not seeing. The only DVD I have noticed it on is Ice Age.
Anyway, I had made the call in July of last year, however I finally decided I should have it fixed, even though it has not been bothering me at all, must be because of the NHL lock out  The fix is a simple fix that requires soldering a jumper wire on the main board, however it require dissassembly of the TV to get at the Chassis to solder. The tech was able to do it in less than 1/2 hour.
When the tech arrived, I showed him the white line on the Ice Age DVD. At forst he could not see it, then after a while he could and stated had I not mentioned it to him, he woul dhave never known, such is the case with this white line problem. I didn't know I had it until Trevor Schell pointed it out to me on his HX93 :P
Front Screen Off, Had I known this was coming off, i would have had some black velvet to line the insides
Tim from Hitech looking for the solder points on the chassis
Arrows show the solder points
Jumper wire is soldered in place.
Thats it, the white line problem is gone, and I don't see any negative effects from the mod.
Tim mentioned this was the first set he had to fix for this. While we were at it we cleaned the lenses and mirror which was kind of dusty after one year of operation.
