Cms (Thiele/Small Parameter)
Cms refers to the mechanical compliance of a driver's suspension system. Cms represents the stiffness or flexibility of the driver's surround and spider, which are responsible for centering and controlling the motion of the driver's diaphragm. It quantifies the ability of the suspension to move in response to changes in force.
The compliance of the suspension affects the resonant frequency, low-frequency response, and overall behavior of the driver. Cms is measured in meters per Newton (m/N) or in millimeters per Newton (mm/N), indicating the displacement of the diaphragm per unit force applied. A lower Cms value indicates a stiffer suspension, while a higher Cms value represents a more compliant or flexible suspension. A larger Cms value signifies greater excursion capabilities and potentially improved low-frequency response.
It's important to consider Cms along with other Thiele/Small parameters, such as the moving mass (Mms), resonant frequency (Fs), and electrical and mechanical Q-factors (Qes and Qms), as they collectively influence the driver's performance and behavior.
