Strictly as a movie, it was terrible. But the soundtrack was bombastic, so it should give the HT a workout. -

I don't know, Kate's look in this one didn't do it for me. I like the way she looks in Underworld, though.

If you read my review in At The Movies, you already know this film and I didn't hit it off at all. I'm going to rent it in the next few days and (at least) try to finish it. See if I'm feeling more positive towards it.

I loved this in theatres, anything with kate and good effects gets me every time. I thought she looked excellent, almost as good as she did in Underworld.
Amazon had free overnight shipping for some reason, so I ordered it and received it this afternoon
Firing up the theatre around 10pm :T

Definitely rent this first George....YMMV.
The collectors edition does come with Drac, Wolman and Frank originals. My brother-in-law picked up the collectors (site unseen 8O ) so it'll be fun to spin the true originals.
The bonus special edition will be fun to watch.
Not sure if I'll run through the movie again though....probably watch Bram Stoker's Dracula and American Werewolf in London instead for All Hallows Eve.Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.Comment

Yes, Gordon, I saw the special set that included the original Wolfman, Dracula and Frankenstein. I have the originals in my collection. They were released rcently. You can't beat those old Universal horror flicks. BTW, I have always felt that The Bride Of Frankenstein was much better than the first Frankenstein. I also have the Bride in my collection.Comment

Aside from Kate's horrible Eastern European accent and occationally tacky CGI, this was fun movie to watch. However, this one is going to be strictly rental for me. Kate looks hot as usual but not as hot as she looked in Underworld, and SQ and PQ didn't really impress me.Victory Shall Be Mine!!! :heh:Comment

I just picked up the super collectors edition sight unseen and I have a few questions. Well, mostly, are the Universal classic monster flicks the same transfer, etc. as the ones that are being released seperately? I'm thinking about adding those to my dvdprofiler if they are so that I can track that I actually own those movies, even if I have to remember that they are on a different disk.Comment

wow, the PQ and SQ is what impressed me most. I watched it again Saturday night and was still as impressed with both, and the 2nd time, I spent more time checking out the surroundings the movie took place in, and its just gorgeous.Originally posted by theMaximus
The LFE was excellent, and all channels had a good amount of bass, and my new DefTech powered speakers running on Large in all locations made me jump a few times. A few times I remember the LFE coming to life was when anyone was on the roof being electricuted, and the electricity would go down and hit the floor and spread out. No boominess and it didnt linger long at all. Very effective.Comment

I got up the nerve to run to Hollywood Video and rent this last night. I plopped it in the player, sat back with a fairly noticable sense of dread and. . . . Hey! This time, in my theater room with complete control of the volume and "audience noise" factors, Van Helsing didn't come across quite as horrendously as it did at the cinema. My review comments still stand about the horrible over-acting and up-n-down CGI, but overall it didn't pain me nearly as badly on the small(er) screen. There were some fun moments - several with Carl, some with Igor, and a few with Anna and Gabriel. The PQ and SQ of this DVD are excellent - no arguments there. Not a great movie, not even a good movie (I won't be purchasing it), it's definitely a renter-first, but it was better the second time around. So, for the DVD, I'll raise my rating a full star up to :2:..

Watched it Halloween night. Wife wondered if this was supposed to be a horror, action or comedy flick. It was a little bit of all three, but certainly very very funny at times. I loved IGOR. When he was tormenting the chained up werewolf, Dracula asked him why he did that. Igor replied, " It's what I do. " I laughed my ass off at that.
Quite a soundtrack and very very good PQ, even though most scenes were in dark surroundings. But, I'm glad I only rented it. Don't know if I'd want to watch it again an a hurry.Comment

We watched this Friday night and given that I went in with low expectations they were easy met. I thought the wolf CGI was usually pretty bad (CGI dogs always are for some reason - Day after tomorrow for example) but the rest wasn't too bad and the story kept my interest...ok that was mostly just Kate but hey its a start. She was better in Underworld though so hopefully we'll get an Underworld 2 before another VH movie.Comment
