I was in the mood for renting a comedy for Saturday night. After reading the jacket on The Johnson Family Vacation, starring Cedric The Entertainer and Vanessa Williams, this looked like a good one. Unfortunately it wasn't.
Every year Cedric attends a family reuinion. There is always fierce competition with his brother to win the Best Family Trophy that Cedric has always won.To get to the reunion, Cedric and family, along with his wife Vanessa ( they are separated, but that's a stupid back-story with a predictable outcome) have to travel cross-country. Along the way they encounter a mad trucker, a hitchhiker from hell, and a few other things that should have been funny if handled properly, but unfortunately they were not. In fact the writing was amateurish and the acting was suspect. Vanessa Williams actually looked as if she were embarrassed by the whole thing. This idea was done much better in NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION, starring Chevy Chase. That flick was well written and acted, and very funny indeed. Not so The Johnson Crew.
But this flick does have one redeeming value, its picture quality is of the SUPERBIT kind.And for that I will give it :
