I have all the originals on laserdiasc too. I'm going to hold off until either my laserdisc player of the movies themselves give up.

Thanks, David! I'll probably have to go that way!

While I have ALL the laser disk versions issued, I'm a firm believer in the value of the chroma bandwidth of DVD compared with NTSC (3:1), so I'll be popping for this set... sigh. Since I got my NEC projector, I'm looking forward to all kinds of "outer space" movies! Besides, ya gotta have great blacks for ole Darth Vader to look right!

                No thanks!

These are the bowdlerized "Special Edition" versions instead of the original theatrical releases, right? If so, I wouldn't want the set even if they paid ME $33.50 -- or $41.88 -- to take it off their hands. I might be financially challenged (as in "I could use the money" -- not being able to do arithmetic would be "mathematically challenged", BTW) :>) but I still have principles (and the originals on laser disc). :>)

Mike, just enter DVDSALE in the "Enter Promotion Code" box at the bottom of the page that pops up after you press the "Buy Now" button.

Sale must be over, I tried entering the text just the way you posted it and it keeps saying "You have entered an invalid promotion code, try again". I tried several different variations, space, no space caps , no caps, none of them work. Oh well.

Me personally, I think I will probably wait for the uber-box set with all 6 movies, which I'm guessing will come out in another 2 years or so. I'm okay with the re-releases, I just don't want Lucas to change them TOO much.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

This is beginning to get irritating.

                              Sh**!!!!! You WEREN'T joking!!!!! :M :M :M :M :M

Here's the text from the post at Digital Bits:

Also this morning, I imagine by now many of you have seen the altered Return of the Jedi DVD screen shot posted yesterday over on Ain't it Cool News. While some sources are still hedging their bets... yes, we can confirm that this is authentic. It IS one of many changes that are being made to the original Star Wars films for the September 21st DVD release.

We've been saying for months now that there were going to be changes made to these films for DVD, and while many believed us, a number of Star Wars fans have e-mailed to say we must be on crack. Nevertheless, believe it or not, we know for a FACT that several more changes are being made to these films. Trust us on this - our contacts are in positions to know. Like it or not, the films we will get on DVD on 9/21 are NOT going to be the original theatrical versions and they're not going to be the 1997 special editions either. Even Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet has confirmed this, saying at the recent WonderCon convention that the films contained on the discs would be the incarnations of the films "as George Lucas sees them today."
Here we go AGAIN. What else is going to get "corrected"?
                              .
