Watched it last night and just barely stayed awake until the end (a reflection of my busy week, not the movie ) If you like Tim Burtons movies, you should like this one As always Mr. Burton uses highly imaginative concepts and imagery to tell a touching, fairly simple story.

Also being a fantastical Burton film AND being mastered in HD :P , the video is quite lovely :T Great colour saturation in the many vibrant scenes and characters, good shadow detail and I could detect little to no EE on my "little" 51" Hitachi. I wouldn't probably call it reference but it's up there. You lucky FP'ers can probably give more detail on the video quality with your giant screens

The sound also lives up to the Burton imagination. Granted it's no action movie and is generally dialogue driven but there was ample and well executed surround and sub activity where appropriate to add to the colourful imagery. The audio when "Edward Bloom" goes looking for "Carl the Giant" is just cool 8) I'll say no more

Jason gives this one :T :T

I bought it on the first day it came out, but STILL haven't watched it. Shame. Shame. Well, my only excuse is that I've been listening to too much music and am busy at work. It was at the insistence of my eldest daughter that I bought it. She had seen it at the movies and knows my taste pretty well. Now, my youngest daughter, who watched it this weekend, insists that I watch it too.

So, that's what I'll be doing this weekend too.

Both my daughters are never wrong, according to them, so it must be great.

We screened this one tonight and I agree Jason it does look quite good on the screen (1HD projecting onto a 92" screen) and the audio is well done...esp for a dialog driven film.

Over all its pretty much what I expected it to be given what little I knew about it before renting it. It is a Tim Burton movie though not as dark as say Batman or Sleepy Hollow but there's several noteable scenes that are very "burtonesk" and his tendancy of useing subtle (or not so subtle) colour in an other wise drab colour pallette is used frequently to good effect.

As Jason mentions this is a dialog driven movie so don't go in expecting it to be paced quickly b/c its not. That's not to say its overly slow its just that this story takes time to set up and tell properly. I'm not sure i'd watch this that often if i owned it but its well done and easily worth the rental.

Oh one last comment this film is rated PG butt there's several scene's of nudity where you see the male and female actors bum's and a slide profile of a naked women (though its pretty dark and underwater) so just a heads up if you though of watching this as a family movie...not that I have anything against nudity..well I really didn't need to see Danny DeVito's rosey cheeks :E

 Yeah that was one part of the movie I could have done without too 8O

What'd you think about the audio in the seen where he goes to get Carl at the cave?

I didn't notice any EE on my 51" did you see any on your 92" setup?

Any of you guys see the sublimanal blue dot pattern flash on this DVD. I've heard people bitching about it, and my friend and his neighbors rented it last weekend and everyone in the room saw them (106" FP screen).

I haven't seen it myself, but he says they were in the sky in the big fish scene. If these are in every copy, I am going to forgo buying it and send Sony a nasty gram explaining why.

Bad enough they put them in theatrical prints to discourage and track camcordering, but to punish people who bought the legitimate DVD by sticking them in there is a little over the line.

If they didn't tag every copy, then I might try buying it and exchange it if they're there. Although, can't imagine they'd bother to create an unmucked up version.

                          BB

I don't think they're all that noticable. I was aware of the issue before watching it this week, and, while not concentrating on finding them, didn't notice them. Some have and others haven't.

By the way, really enjoyed the movie. Good to see Jessica Lange again.

I wasn't aware of the problem and neither my wife or I noticed them on our projector.
