Denzel Washington plays the chief of police of a small Florida backwater town. He is about to divorce his wife ( her decision) and whether out of despair, loneliness, or what have you, he has an affair with a married woman. Big mistake, as this affair leads him into doing something incredibly stupid, which leads to a series of events tying him to theft, arson and murder ( I won't say how all this comes about for those of you who like surprises). The real stickler in Denzel's mess is Eva Mendes, who plays his wife. She is a homicide detective assigned to the case of arson and murder considered too big for Denzel and his small staff. How Denzel goes about trying to right a terribly stupid mistake makes for some great suspense. You like his character and find yourself pulling for him and sweating right along with him.
This flick is like one of those film noir potboilers right out of the 40's. And though it's hard to believe that Denzel's character could be so assinine to do what he did to create this mess, I still liked the movie and would recommend it heartily as a pleasant evening's viewing. And if you live in colder climes as I do, you'll really appreciate the cinematography that features Florida's turquoise waters, azure blue skies and lush green palm trees. The PQ is very good and the sound, though it won't test your system, is okay. BTW, this film has some very nice music tracks.
