    HOOK on Superbit

Since I didn't have this film in my collection, and had never seen it theaterically, I saw the Superbit version at Walmart and bought it not knowing what to expect.

I'm sure most everyone here knows this Steven Speilberg film about an older Peter Pan and Captain Hook, so I'll just say it's a fun film for kids ( ME ) of all ages.

But it wasn't the movie itself that grabbed me the most. No, it's the fantastic transfer. This is another one to add to the reference disc category. And the DTS track ain't too shabby either.

In case you didn't know, it stars Robin Williams as a grownup Peter Pan and Dustin Hoffman ( he had a ball with this role) as Captain Hook.
    This belongs in every collection.

I actually have been waiting for a good transfer of this film. I'm glad Superbit did it justice.

    Thanks for the review George!

FYI...if you don't wanna pay the Superbit price or don't care about DTS...the quality of the print on both the Superbit and older release are about identical if not identical...here's a review stating as much as well:

For some reasons I never understood, this movie was (you knew this was coming, right? "panned" by reviewers. I've enjoyed it every time I've seen it. I mean, how could you not? Steven Spielberg directing Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman? Julia Roberts and Bob Hoskins? A pretty decent script and beautiful cinematography? Oh well, it's all personal taste I suppose.

The Superbit will have a prominent place in my DVD collection. :T

          Erik,
Since I had never seen the 2001 release I couldn't honestly compare. I can only say this Superbit version is nothing short of spectacular with a quality that is very close to the SB Fifth Element. The Walmart CDN price was $23 so I'd guess the US price around $14 - $15 which is pretty reasonable, so if the DTS is important, the price of the SB is right.

Hey, we have a Lex-sighting on our hands! :B

Checked the on-line prices for Hook Superbit and the best was $18.10 US with free shipping - but they had a bad customer satisfaction rating. Everything else was $20+ US. Hopefully WallyWorld will have some more copies in stock at the cheap price.

One DVD that justifies buying a player -- Lawrence of Arabia SUPERBIT
                by Burke Strickland
Lawrence of Arabia is one of the very best movies, possibly THE best, ever made. That’s not just my opinion, since it shows up on almost every “best” list by critics, directors, and fans. But it has always been special for me since first seeing it more than once during its initial “road show”...

Well, seeing as my RPTV died, I thought I'd go to the movies, which I don't do too much. Actually, quite a few movies at the theaters I'd be pretty interested in seeing, but chose Pan's Labyrinth...after clearing it with my wife and the mom of a friend of my 14 year old daughter. The reason I bring...

I know there are many action film fans, and Tom Cruise fans as well here at The Guide, and I'm also certain that many of you have already seen this terrific film in the theater so I won't go into great detail on the storyline.
