    Ex Machina

Had a bit of a break yesterday and caught up with two films on my shelf. Ex Machina was a very interesting, minimalist sci-fi of a kind I quite enjoy. In some ways (tonally more than anything) it reminded me of a similar minimalist sci-fi called Never Let Me Go. (Same screenwriter so not surprising)

A quiet, reflective film that poses interesting philosophical questions.

Big discussion on the film and the BD disc here: http://www.htguide.com/forum/showthr...hlight=machina

Milestone disc for HT. But so-so movie, IMHO.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

I forgot I'd posted in that thread. What elevated it for me above so-so were the performances. And in the past couple of years I find performance increasingly important--more than how tightly plotted or visually stunning a movie might be.
