    "Mr. Turner" (2014)

    I’m surprised that this Mike Leigh directed film depicting the life of English painter J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851) played by Timothy Spall hasn’t (a) been mentioned yet on this forum and (b) didn’t win an Oscar. It is a work of art, beautifully filmed with wonderful acting and witty repartee. The gooseberry scene is exquisitely funny. My only criticism of the film is that there should have been more witty repartee like the gooseberry scene.

    Spoiler: viewers expecting lots of action scenes will be disappointed.

      On my list to watch but end of semester marking is always a rough patch for my A/V hobby (and playoff hockey trumps other screen time on most nights from mid-April to mid-June). Good to know it has promise.
