If by the earlier one you mean the 10th anniversary edition, then yes the transfer is better.
The new one is anamorphic
You have to remember that is was a low budget film and a lot of it was shot with grainy film stock. There are places that you will go Ugh but overall it is the best version I have seen.

I liked the TV series myself. Adrian Paul is/was a pretty good actor for the part.
