This Canadian made film is about a hockey goon ( Seann William Scott ) who can hardly skate or play the game, but makes up for it all with his fists. Many laugh-out-loud moments but there is also a lot of blood. Liev Schreiber, who plays the league leading tough guy about to retire, stole the movie even though his time on film is short. The climax comes when Scott and Schreiber have their inevitable confrontation.
There haven't been many decent hockey movies made, so there aren't many to compare Goon to, other than Slapshot, perhaps. In this case, the latter is the much better. But, then, Goon doesn't have Paul Newman.
Anyway, most hockey fans will get a kick out of Goon, which was actually based on a real life hockey player, so don't hesitate to give it a rent.
