    Midnight in Paris

Watched Woody Allan's "Midnight in Paris" on DVD last night and it's excellent!. Classic Woody with the classic mono only sound presentation using the classic Times new roman fonts at the beginning and end!!. This film is extremely entertaining as this disgruntled, unhappily married, lost writer and he discovers he can go back into time in Paris at the stroke of Midnight and pal it up with some pretty famous woman and men of the past!. This is one of Woody's better one's in awhile!! Check it out!! :T

    ps...Suitable for all ages....my 12 year old daughter loved it !! :T

I'm a big Allen fan, so I'm sure I'll watch this at some point.

George--you have to at least give Sleeper a try. It's the Allen film for both fans and non-fans, IMO.

Sleeper was funny. It's his later work I have trouble with.

^^Netflix Canada has a smaller selection owing to licensing issues, primarily, but in the past year (I joined last January), I'd guess there's been a fivefold increase in available material. Still more than enough to justify my subscription (especially for TV programmes).

George, have you tried Shadows and Fog? A bit uneven, but some great dialogue.

It's in black and white, shot entirely on soundstages (a rarity for Allen) and has a good cast (including one of my favourites, John Cusack). Can't guarantee you'll like it, but I enjoy it quite a bit.

We saw this in the theater and enjoyed it. A little bit of Woody goes a long way with me too, George. But this movie had a quaint charm that was enjoyable. Aside from the beautiful scenic shots of Paris the story was enchanting as well.
Owen Wilson does a good job as a frustrated writer who becomes re-inspired by magically socializing with some of history's greatest authors and artists. A young Hemingway partying in Paris was entertaining to say the least...

This is a romantic/comedy/fantasy/lighthearted movie "lite".
                      Enter without caution...

I just watched this and it makes me want to return to Paris. I found it thoroughly enjoyable--not a slapstick all-out laugh generator, but certainly a film that seeks to impart a sense of the magic and wonder that movies are supposed to give us (at least, most of the time). I will be adding this to my collection.

I still have to watch this! They really need to invent a way to get more hours in the day/days in the week!

We finally watched it the other night and quite enjoyed the scenery, light story and charm of the movie. (McAdam loading the car in those jeans wasn't half bad either! :P :W )

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend for a nice "date night"

Saw it this weekend. A pleasant film. And a nice departure from the trite, mucky drool escaping most Hollywood studios these days.

I thoroughly enjoyed the performance by Corey Stoll as Hemingway. Also, Adrian Brody's Salvador Dali was charming. Of course, Kathy Bates gave her always authoritative, earthy and believable talents to the portrayal of Gertrude Stein. Owen Wilson’s seemingly authentic naivety lent him well to his character, though I still have yet to decide if he is really an actor, thought this may be due in most part to type-casting throughout his career.

As far as ‘special contributions’ go, I must cast my vote for Carla Bruni. Oh, to have a personal tour of the Louvre by her would be……….well, best we not go there.

If there was a message to be implied by the film, for myself, I would have to say it is one of the need for all, and especially artists, to live for the moment. Worry of the past & future serve only to leech life's short opportunity for creativity and happiness.

Perhaps it connected with the unfulfilled writer in me, but, for whatever reason I really enjoyed this lighthearted romantic comedy.
Not being a huge Woody Allen fan (director/writer), I entered the theater with more than a few reservations, but was eventually won over by the story's imaginative...

There seems to be a lot of people on this forum that like to collect films. This baffles me a bit because I find in 99% of cases, A film is watchable once.

So then, what are your absolute keepers?. A few of mine (I'm 49 now) are the below. These are films that I will definitely watch...

Woody Allen's : You will meet a tall dark stranger review

Actually I'm not going to call this review a review because the movie is quite simply a very poor effort. The ending is laughable. 4/10 stars. The poorest effort I have ever seen from Woody. Watch at your own risk!!.

                                Hi,

I have a 1056 and was wondering if there's any sort of "midnight" mode on it. My old Pioneer system had it. It compressed the audio dynamic range so that I could turn down the volume at night and still hear things like dialogue clearly. I flipped through the menus and...

Several years ago, I decided that I wanted to read all of the "classic" works of literature, and dove into a reading list including Stranger in a Strange Land, Catcher in the Rye, various Asimov, Steinbeck, Ayn Rand, etc. I'm making progress.

Since then, I've started to buy...
