    Review of BD "Beginners"

:Z Well, I watched this on Blu ray and it was presented in full screen mode which was nice for a change. Funny thing is about BD, when you haven't watched one in awhile and then watch a film in that format, you realize how truly nice it is, both in sound and picture compared with dvd. I was impressed!. :E

Now as for this film itself...well.....it is peddled as a comedy in my video store and it is anything but!. It's a film of sadness and depression to say the least. You quickly realize that this is going to be one of those films that just ends at one point with credits rolling and sure enough, that's what happens here.

I won't go into the plot since you can easily check that out for yourself online, but be warned that there is a gay aspect to this film, depression, neglect, broken relationships and finally.....death. Is it well done??. Yes. Plummer does his usual great job acting and the co-stars are also good. It's just what happens in the film that is the problem. It plods along at a very slow pace and it's all about the sad relationships between the characters. The storyline is actually minimal.

6/10 stars for this sad, depressing film

Guess I'll pass on this one. I don't need any depression in my life right now.

This is a sad day. Gregory Peck dead at 87.
          by Danbry39
I loved him, always with a gentle strength and dignity. At least he apparently died peacefully. His wife said he wasn't even sick, but that age took its course and he just passed on while asleep.

Gregory Peck, the lanky, handsome movie star whose long career included such classics as...

How much should a student first time film cost?
          by oldbob
In answer to my own question, I would say between $10,000 and $40,000 dollars. It used to be more but digital has drastically lowered the cost while at the same time making it much easier to produce a professional look.

However, this isn’t a story about reasonable. This is the true...

Now we all have learned that at the beginning of each day you are given your pages of the days work. For me that means I can figure out how I am going to utilize my crew and plan my day. The more I can get ahead of the company with pre-lighting the more time I can save production. And in film time is...

Latest press release from Parasound. I have a personal connection to this one, as I grew up in Colorado, and played sports with Columbine High School. The Columbine massacre really touched me, as I would imagine it did to all of us. I think I'm going to send a message the way of Andrew Robinson,...
