    Brian Wilson Presents Smile

It was tempting to post this under music DVD's but, it really belongs here. SMILE is two discs. The first is a excellent documentary about the history of this amazing piece of POP music.

Brian Wilson was so far ahead of his time that if SMILE would have been released as scheduled Sgt. Pepper would have paled in comparison, as it now does. As you watch the documentary it is hard to not think about "What if....".
What if Brian Wilson had not succumbed to the emotional breakdown that came about while trying to complete a masterpiece that nobody else at the time understood. What would he have done next? Would the Beatles ever have been able to keep up with him?

There have been so many rumors over the decades about just what did cause Brian Wilson to have a emotional and mental breakdown and then withdraw from the world. This documentary answers these questions.

The second disc is a live concert of SMILE. When you watch it you realize that it isn't just a series of songs on a record. It is a cohesive rock opera. The songs are played together without break in three movements. It is a music DVD that will entertain you for many viewings. I found that with each viewing I appreciated the complexity of the music more and more. Not to mention the innovative way that Brian Wilson used musical instruments you thought you were familiar with as well as juxtaposing things like classical cello players with a harmonica player.

Glad you posted this here, Bob, otherwise I may have missed it. I'll be ordering it if I can't buy it locally.

Huh, interesting. By coincidence, though, it just happened to be on TV late last night (I forget which channel) so I recorded it. Haven't watched it yet, though.

The full title is "Brian Wilson Presents Smile". Didn't realize it at the time I started the thread.

Bob, I think you'll find that Brian listened to a pre-release of Sgt. Pepper when Paul McCartney played it to him in Los Angeles and turned pale when he realised how good The Beatles album was... but who knows for sure as Brian was facing other challenges at the time too.

I watched the recording. Very interesting, although parts certainly got a bit cosmic.

I have a new appreciation for Brian and the Beach Boys. Coincidentally, my "Best of the Beach Boys" CD just showed up yesterday from Amazon.

Lesson to take away from the video seems to be, "Don't Do LSD".

Not if you are emotionally unstable. Moot point anyways. I don't think it can be found anymore. Now back in the 60's when I was living in the Haight....

As some of you know, I've been searching for my next pair of speakers. My budget for the speaker goes to $50,000. Which is basically Wilson Alexia category. Every speaker I've heard is SOTA... but there are so many different flavors.

Most recently, I've heard the 800 Diamonds (paired...

                        Ancient Aliens :alol:

I popped this hilarious documentary series off my library shelves the other day in a fit of desperation for rainy day entertainment. It is a series that basically tries to convince it's viewers that we were visited by Aliens many times in the past...

Just got done watching this documentary on Amazon Prime, it's an Amazon original and have to say it was quite good. It follows 6 or so different teams through the 2015 Le mans series all the way up to the end. Thought some of you motor sports fans might be interested in taking a peek.

I hope to add a Home Theater (Movies and TV 90% and Musis 10%) and a Rec Room area (Movies and TV 50% and Musis 10%) A/V system. I've considered a number of options, and now hope to listen to a Wilson based system this week (Watt Puppy 7 and Sophia / Watch Center), after having focused on B&W...
