I agree, Bill. And it's interesting to watch the Coen's version and the 1969 Henry Hathaway version. Hathaway veered away from the Charles Portis novel ( a classic book in its own right ) while the Coen boys almost followed the book verbatim, including lifting much of the original dialogue from the pages of the novel. Although I still have a soft spot for John Wayne's Rooster Cogburn, Bridges did an admirable job. Matt Damon did a hands down better job as Leboeuf than Glen Campbell, who really wasn't that good an actor. And the little actress playing Mattie Ross was fabulous. I have both versions in my collection now and will watch both frequently .
