Red Hill ... modern day western

A young Australian police officer asks for a transfer to a small town ( Red Hill ) so that his pregnant wife, in a quiet setting, can have a better chance at giving birth successfully after losing their first one. But the officer's first day on the job becomes an all out nightmare after an escaped convict seeks bloody revenge on the local police force. During the turmoil, the young officer learns why the convict is on a revenge rampage and the reason isn't a pretty one, pitting the young man against the rest of the local police force once the truth is known.

Even though this is set in Australia, it has the look and feel of a modern day North American western. Take away the cars and trucks, add a few more horses and this could easily be a pure out and out western. I don't know any of the Aussie actors, but all did a stellar job, especially the guy portraying Old Bill, the police inspector. I really enjoyed this film, in fact I enjoyed it so much I intend to buy it. :T

As for westerns, I have always had a great love of them and have many in my own collection.

I had to play Charlie Chaplin at a dinner murder mystery party, so I rented this for a watch. I've never really watched Chaplin's work before. It was FANTASTIC! This particular film is thought of as the "last silent film", as film audio had just begun, but Chaplin refused to have his famous...

OPEN RANGE - the Western is alive and kicking
          by George Bellefontaine
Tex Meek already did an excellent review on this film over at AT THE MOVIES and he nailed it. So I won't go into story detail and what-not, but I have a few observations I would like to impart.

First of all, this is not a knock-down-drag-'em-out kinda Western. In fact this story could...
