The Expendables a throwback to ...

...all those action films of the 70s and early 80s. Sylvester Stallone leads a band of mercenaries hired to overthrow a South American country dictator. The plot isn't all that credible but watching the likes of Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundrigan, Mickey Rourke, etc., mixing it up together on screen made it worth while for me. There is tons of action and enough explosions to give your subwoofer a huge workout. Not much acting here, but Rourke does a pretty good cameo, and as far as the regulars go, Jason Statham was probably the most convincing. It was great to see all these action guys together. Just a shame that ( action and explosions aside ) there was so little of substance to work with. Still a decent rental and maybe even a purchase to boot.

I've looked high and low and still can't find a movie named "..." -- must have slipped under the radar. :>)

I watched the first 10~15 minutes and couldn't stop laughing. Really no story to it at all... but lots of action that's humorous. :B
I really do need to watch the whole thing (just can't find any time lately) just for kicks.

Yeah, that's pretty much the way to approach it.

          Expendables 2 not too bad
          by George Bellefontaine
As sequels go, Expendables 2 is pretty good. Now don't worry, you won't have to tax your brain, though you may find it a bit of a stretch when someone like Chuck Norris pops up out of nowhere and saves the expendables' skin. But all in all I found it an entertaining 90 minutes.

When I saw the previews for this movie I knew I had to go see it. Basically all your action stars in one movie. I just wished they had some better material to work with. I know not to expect great story telling and even great dialog, but really some editing and you could get this thing down easily to...

          Stallone's Get Carter
          by George Bellefontaine
          FORGET CARTER.
Naw, that isn't fair. This was a valiant effort at a remake of the original Get Carter starring Michael Caine. Nice try but it just didn't make it. Stallone is not as nasty as Caine in the original. You actually find yourself pulling for Carter in this version, whereas you weren't...

Just watched this yesterday, I liked it.

If you enjoyed the first you should like this one as well. If nothing else its worth a rental. Definitely a pop-corn action flick. I never cared for Van Damme but I thought he was decent in this.
