    Karate Kid

Has anyone seen this yet? Buddy of mine at work said it was excellent. Hadn't planned on watching it prior to his recommendation....kind of karate kidded out from the first series. He was adamant that I'd really enjoy it. So I was curious if anyone else could give an opinion on it before I bust out 6 bucks for On Demand...?

It's well worth the rental IMO. I thoroughly enjoyed it and agree with your Buddy. :T

I never cared for the original so I'm going to pass on the remake.

The guy that plays Mr. Miyagi this time--does he actually know anything about karate?

Nah!! Don't think so..He does put on a pretty good show though. He really does look and act like he has some experience in Martial Arts. But you know how these actors are... :B :B :B

If I were a kid then maybe perhaps...But as an adult I can't pretend it's subject matter has anything of interest to me either George. We are just to crusted lol.

Yeah, it was a nice movie. I bought it, I watched it 3 times cause my kids really liked it.
I'm not sure if it was suppose to be a remake or a rendition of the original. Will's kid is a good actor though. And it's impressive what he went through to make the movie.

They mention the word "karate" once in the movie. lol
The movie is in China and is about Kung Fu. The funnier part is that Japan doesn't call the movie Karate Kid. They call it "Best Kid" here. Maybe the movie industry said something like "what is this?! Karate is Japanese. The story takes place in China. That isn't even karate.... CHANGE THE NAME!" ha ha :B

They made the boy/girl relationship in the movie a bit more involved. I liked that they did that. It made the movie more interesting. It's a nice movie. I would recommend watching it. I'd only recommend buying it if you have kids that are interested in martial arts (though my boys are more in awe from The Last Airbender. ha ha)

                            Someone's hating huh? lol

But you're right, Will Smith even said that remaking the Karate Kid was just an idea, and it pretty took off with the idea of his son being in it. But... so what? At least the kid can act.

You don't think he can act? For his age, he's a good actor. He's no Dakota Fanning, but then again, I don't think anyone has been able to keep up with her.

I saw this one. Thought it was okay. I don't know if I'd prefer this version, or the original, which was no masterpiece either. Both a pretty decent, in the :35: out of :5: range.

I too thought all the changes were interesting/odd. Set in China, not America involving Japanese culture. All Kung Fu, no Karate. Still have the enemy dojo, and there are several things that make them the bad guys, but in the end, they act very honorably and everbody goes home friends, quite different from the original KK. Much younger Karate Kid, too, which made the love story sweet, but I kept wondering how much they were really going to do with it.

Oh, a few very, very pretty obligatory scene shots of the Beijing area in the movie, that I'm pretty sure were actually filmed there in China--the Forbidden City, Great Wall, and such. I had a great time there seeing those for real, and I wish I had been watching the movie in HD at those scenes.

This is a terrific teen action drama with impeccable direction and production. Ralph Macchio really captured the teen angst of a middle-class Jersey boy trying to adapt to the dangers of an upper-class California society, as well as being a not-so-silent victim of school violence. His transformation...

Does anyone have experience with them?...
