    Quantum of Solace (blu-ray)

    Great title!

Ok... this movie was great! I definitely like this new bond. Dark, yet so smooth. Daniel Craig is awesome as bond. The story is very much connected to Casino Royale in a puzzle-like way. I did not watch Casino Royale since it came out, but I should have because I had a bit of a hard time understanding what was going on in the beginning of the movie. But you catch on and then it's great from there on out.

SQ and PQ are top notch! SQ is shown off as soon as the movie starts. The scene starts, and BAMN, the action begins. The PQ is just outstanding! Especially in the second scene with the public crowd. It really shows what blu-ray can do for PQ. The last battle in the movie is the best. Though the sound quality was throughout the movie was good, I wasn't all that impressed. But in the last battle, they really turned things up. Great SQ reference material.

Overall, this is a great blu-ray movie! I definitely give this :45: and highly recommend it.

Elsewhere, I've read about a lot of disappointed Bond fans with this one. But that hasn't stopped me from buying it. It's coming from Amazon so I will watch as soon as I get it.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'll still buy it! :T

Just like at this point, I'll buy anything that Pixar puts out, even if they were to release a full BD with only a 5-minute animated short about a spatula. Hmmmm.... maybe I shouldn't admit that publicly.

I actually saw this last night for the first time, my friend brought over the BD. The PQ & SQ were great. The movie is pretty good but IMHO (similar to Casino Royale) just not really a Bond type movie. I don't really think his character is all that much "darker" so much as he just doesn't fit the Bond precedent set by all the previous movies. His character makes mistakes all the time, lets his emotions take him over, and is a lot rougher around the edges than what the quintessential Bond character has been.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this is a bad thing. But I think they could have just as easily renamed all the characters and had it be a completely stand alone secret agent movie not affiliated with the Bond franchise in any way and it wouldn't have changed anything.

This is a deliberate choice by the "franchise owners". When Bond first appeared on the screen, in Dr. No, his character was already established (it was not the first Bond novel) and, subsequently, the films were adapted from whichever novel the filmmakers wanted (until they ran out of them). Consequently, Bond was already a fully developed character in his "prime". With Craig, the filmmakers have decided to view the character in his earliest stages, before he became the polished agent we're so familiar with from earlier incarnations. It can be jarring, but I believe it leaves interesting avenues to explore.

Picked it up last night on BR. Good movie, right off the bat it started with great action.

Ovearll a good movie, but when it was all said and done I felt something was missing. I can't quite place my finger on it. Maybe it was I felt the character development was poor, I dunno.

Id say 3/5 on the first viewing.

I've always thought that this new Bond character is much more realistic. No one can be as perfect as the previous Bond persona was But either way I enjoyed many of the Bond films.

Well obviously it was a deliberate choice to change the character somewhat, it's just whether or not people like that change that's in question IMHO. As I said though I think it's a great movie, just not really a Bond movie in the traditional sense. It reminded me more of the Bourne movies than a Bond movie.

Pierce was a bit over exaggerated to me, but great action and perfectly fit the Bond persona.
Yes, I agree that the new Bond is a bit over-rational and emotional, but I think that's the point, isn't it? He's character is new to the field, so it takes time to adjust and perfect your skill. Just like any other high-adrenaline job.

I can see how some people don't like this movie, but at the same time, it's a very challenging movie. Those that came to just watch pure action will be disappointed. You have to do some thinking with this movie. But I think it rolled it perfectly with Casino Royale.

The ONE thing that is super exaggerated in this movie is his reflex. It's faster than a cat, faster than Spider-man. A wind blows his hair in the other direction, and he knows it's a bad guy, and BAMN! It's cool to watch, but man... that is a little TOO fast of a reaction.

I think I'm gonna watch Casino Royale this weekend and then Quantum of Solace again. :B

Quantum of Solace was an "ok" Bond film to me. I keep hearing everyone say that this Bond is darker and more rough around the edges and I would agree with that. But I have to admit that my two favorite bonds were Dalton and Brosnan even though that might be heresy to some Bond fans. Brosnan was suave and perfect while Dalton was brutal and precise. I just thought the Bond flicks they starred in were so much more entertaining than the previous and latter movies. I will say that these last two Bond films were more "realistic" than any thus far though.

I'll tell you what was missing. A female lead that Bond seduced and shagged.

Yeah... you're right. He only slept with one woman in this one, and it wasn't the lead female.
Oh, there was one VERY EXAGGERATED part of the movie. The parachute opened like 50 feet from the ground. ha ha

anyone notice the bass was stronger on this bluray disc? this was the first time i didn't have to increase the bass volume.
