Here's a quirky but interesting little gem

    IN BRUGES
It stars Colin Farrel and Brendan Gleeson as a couple of hit men who are instructed by boss man Ralph Fiennes to hide out in Bruges ( it's in Belgium ) until they receive intructions for their next contract. It's sort of a drama/ black comedy, that while bursting with violence one moment, will leave you chuckling the next. There's a little twist to things, and has everything to do as to why they were sent to Burges, so I won't ruin it for those of you who may want to rent it. If you like quirky little films , long with some really good acting from the three gents mentioned here, then I highly recommend it.

This was a real big movie here last year - for obvious reasons. I really enjoyed it although it does get quite dark. Powerful performances by all the three main characters and a very, very snappy and clever script.

In short it was in my top five movies last year.

I can understand why. I had rented it but now I am thinking of buying it as I really want to see it again sometime soon.

It's not that often we get an Irish writer/director and leading cast to do so well so it really was a huge move here. I mean everyone went to the cinima to see it and it was open for weeks. It was also great to see Farrell in a really good role too.

Yeah he hasn't been exactly getting choice roles. He's a much better actor than many give him credit for being. But for In Burges , anyway, I really felt Brendan Gleeson stole the film. He's terrific.

Agreed. Y'know, he played a hitman named 'Bunny Kelly' in another small Irish movie about 10 years ago. It was called 'I Went Down'. I realled loved that movie. He's due to play Winston Churchill next.

Actually, the casting of Ralph Fiennes was a particularly brilliant decision. He almost stole the show for his brief part!

Indeed, Vincent. You know, casting for the entire film was brilliant.

It's at the top of my Netflix queue.
Thanks for the 'heads up' George.

Same here, Bill. Occasionally I'll read a review on one and go looking for it, but often I just stumble onto it at the local Blockbuster outlet and give it a rental. I've had some duds, but there have been more gems than turnips.

Thanks for the recommendation on this one George! Really enjoyed it.

Colin Farrell surprised me with his acting skills. He was able to convey his feelings and emotions with just a subtle change of facial expression like raising an eyebrow or a different look would be reflected in his eyes as his thoughts changed depending on the scene. He really did an excellent job. As mentioned, the rest of the cast was great too.

Glad you liked it, Gump. I try to find little gems and if I feel they warrant it, I do a little review here in the hopes that others will enjoy them as I did.

Finally arrived a couple of days ago from zip.ca and I watched it last night. I'm adding it to my collection. "Elephants" (anyone who's seen it will understand). A great little movie.
