    Atonement

Atonement....yes,I need some, because after watching this movie...I feel wronged.
My wife wanted to see this film, she saw most of it...as I had to wake her several times.I know it's suppose to be a 'sweeping romance',but to us it was more of a sleeping romance.
I found it was painfully slow as it dragged on and on...and then wrapped up with an ending that was both trite and unsatisfying.
Yes Kiera Knightly and James McVoy did well,as did the actresses who played Briony over several decades, including Vanessa Redgrave...but it was all lost in a movie which made my very comfortable recliners seem hard.

Your mileage may vary, but I doubt by much....

I've stayed away from this film for the very reasons you ( and others elsewhere) mentioned.

I bought the movie for my wife but have not yet watched it. However, I did read the novel about six years ago and found it a complex yet compelling read. One of the best and memorable books I've read in fact.

I wanted to write this review yesterday itself but was so disappointed in this movie that left it. I agree with Donald on this, the pace in the begining and towards the end is very slow.

And havent we seen so many of these themes, what was special about this one ??
Need is the mother of all Inventions.....I am needy

We watched it, it was ok. I was impressed with that very long single-take scene on the beach...reminded me of Children of Men as far as technique.

True....and the surreal nature of the Dunkirk scene reminded me of Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket.

I've been hearing so much about that scene that I am tempted to rent the dvd and put up with the rest of boring scenes.

George,as they say in the NFL,'upon further review'....
Today my wife was relaxing and put the DVD back in.She had missed so much of it...sleeping the first time, she decided to re-watch it.
So I sat...for what I thought would be a minute.But....believe it or not,I wound up watching the entire movie again.
Maybe just because it was pouring rain outside, but it was not as horrid as my first viewing...high praise there.
It is still rather slow, but I would now not give it a 'don't watch'.
It has it's moments, and is certainly a period piece. And for someone such as myself, whose in-laws met in WWII,he an infantry man,she an army nurse,it gives a peek into the moment.

Really? Then I'm impressed with myself that I noticed it. Didn't realize until about halfway through the scene, of course, but then that became what I was paying attention to, waiting for a wipe or cut.

The most disappointing part to me was how skinny Keira Knightley is...me likes a bit 'o meat on 'er like in Domino. :B
