    FREEDOMLAND powerful stuff

Powerhouse performances by Sameul L. Jackson and Julianne Moore. Basically, Moore's character claims someone has hi-jacked her car and kidnapped her son. This has happened in a large African American neighborhood where Jackson is pretty much the cop in charge, and with this incident the time bomb starts ticking as residents faceoff against the riot squad. Jackson must get to the bottom of things and digs until he uncovers the truth, hopefully in time to avert disaster.

Like I said, great performances by the two lead actors. Jackson has never been this good. Moore, who can be quite galmourous, is anything but here in her portrayal of a woman on the edge.

Once you see how the truth is uncovered, you probably won't want to watch it a second time. That's how it was for me, anyway, so you may want to rent first. :4:

Well, my wife offered to pick up a couple of rentals for me today and I asked for this one and Three Burials Of Melquiades Estrada, two of King George's picks. I'm going to invite her to watch Freedomland with me, as I think that is the more up her alley type film.

Me, I'm really looking forward to both.

Speaking of Westerns, George, did you happen to watch part I of Broken Trails on TV yesterday? To me, it had its moments, but I was somewhat disappointed. Good, but not great. Maybe, because it has Robert Duvall (can't believe he's 75 years old now), I expected it to be as good as Lonesome Dove, which is unrealistic.

Oh, and, by the way, at the recent Deep Discount DVD sale, I got the whole set of the three Lonesome Dove TV mini-series for $19, with free shipping at that. I'm dripping with joy as I've only had a horrible copy I VCR'd off the tube all these years. That might be my best deal ever.

Actually, I forgot about that new series. To be honest, I watch very little tv other than some Larry King Live, sports and the odd documentary. The fact that Broken Trails disappointed you makes me think I didn't miss much. I love Duvall, especially his character in Lonsome Dove and of course the crusty boss in Open Range. Anyway, hope you enjoy the two movies I recommended.

An absolute Classic of the Western genre in an Epic format, IMHO.

Oh, I definitely agree with that. It is loaded with absolutely unforgettable scenes and characters of the stuff from which legends are made. :T

              by John Holmes
Joe Jackson, has long been one of my guilty pleasures. While his music style is hard to catagorize, the skill of his piano play is not. I began to enjoy his talent when he released the album: "Nite & Day". On it was one of my favorites, "Breaking us into". A sorta ballad, with...
