    BestBuy - Superbit Sale

Not sure if this was posted anywhere but last week BestBuy put all its Superbit DVDs on sale for (USD) $10. All of them. I was there yesterday and at least my store has extended the sale indefinitely. They even have a special/impressive Superbit rack in that brushed aluminum color at the front of the store showing off all the Superbits in order. I picked up Vertical Limit and it put a workout on my speakers and subs the likes of which I have never seen :E

The picture quality ranks at or above the best of the Superbits I have in my collection which I find amazing (and irritating) since most of mine are newer productions like Spidey I and II, and VL was "clearly" superior to those. Its definitely close to the Hi Def category and most likely a keeper in a collection which is soon to be outdated with the arrival of Hi Def DVDs.

So, if you don't own this one yet and didn't want to pay the normal BB disocunted price of $22.99, this is a good oppt'y to seize upon and have a fun HT experience this weekend.

In store (at least by me) it said Entire Superbit DVD Collection on Sale - $9.99, and they were. But they told me that in the BB store online, some are not available for that price. Did you go to the local store by you? I just picked up Panic Room and Hollowman for $9.99 today. Nice.

            Adz,
There were exceptions. I hate to break it to you but Panic Room can be found for $5 at Walmart in their bins.

Superbit $5? Maybe by you in Oklahoma, never seen that in NY. But I'll go to Walmart tomorrrow and check it out anyway as I haven't opened up the DVD yet. Again it seems every store has its own policy. If you tell me which ones you want, I'll pick them up for you (or anyone else on the Guide who can't get the same deal, no problem) as I need to go back tomorrow and pick up Stallone's Cliffhanger. $10 plus ground shipping is still not that bad! Let me know.

                  Superbit $5?
Panic Room Superbit yes. The first release. The 2nd release was not a superbit. It is quite a bit more money because it is a multi disc set.

That's what is so great about America. Somewhere, someone can always find something at a cheaper price. I wound up picking up 5 Superbit DVDs in total for $50 plus tax (Vertical Limit, Panic Room, Cliffhanger, Hollowman and The 5th Element). Not too bad. I'm Super-bited out!

How much better is the quality of Superbit DVD's. Ive seen them for sale for $40 and just never really looked into them.
                                  any feedback would be great

                                    'better' is subjective...

I like to think of it in terms of MP3 compression.

Regular DVD is 128kbps where as a superbit is 192kbps. Some people can not hear the difference between the two, while others can. The rates are just numbers shown for example, I do not know the exact ratio.

Additionally, a single sided DVD can hold 4.7GB whereas a double sided can hold 9.4GB. Superbits, typically use up all the available disk space to provide the least amount of digitally compressed video/sound.

Good analogy. It's really dependent on your eyes/ears and your level of equipement on how noticeable it is. There's technically a fair bit of additional quality there but if you're watching it through cataracts and a hearing aid on a 15 year old 20" SDTV with it's internal speakers you'll likely not notice the improvement

Interesting note that BHD was originally $50.99.
I'd say thats quite the deal.

Just picked up The 5th Element. The VQ is a lot better than I expected it to be. I don't have an HDTV, just a RPTV, and it looks really good. Not all the superbits were for sale. Spiderman was still $20. But most of the superbits were $10-12 dollars. I've been looking for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon since the original DVD's VQ was a bit grainy.

Hey, I was in BB last night picking up Batman Begins and noticed that all the Superbits are back on for $9.99 each. No advertisements, no special racks, just a great price on generally superior PQ/SQ DVDs. :T
                                                .

                                                  Tex,
It was probably just left that way from the last pricing run. I don't know if this is a mistake or not but I don't want to ask

Well, welll... I'm currently stuck in Charleston, SC, and walked into the local BB today. I was pleasantly surprised to find a display advertising all Superbits for $9.99. I had to go through the racks to find the ones I wanted, but I picked up 7 titles. Cool! :T

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.
