The first time I recall seeing James Doohan was in a CBC tv drama back in the 50s. It was about a doomed commercial flight. Doohan played one of the passengers who ends up landing the plane. At the time Hailey worked for an ad agency in Toronto. With the success of the tv script, he expanded on the tv play went on to write it in the form of a novel - AIRPORT. It became a best seller world wide and he just went on to book after book. Doohan continued to act in Canadian CBC tv and radio dramas and for awhile I didn't hear much about him until Star Trek came on the scene and there he was -- Scotty.

RIP, Scotty. I'm sure you were beamed up.
