Watched this over the weekend. Although the subject matter is unpleasant, I have to say I was totally engrossed in this film. Kevin Bacon is a gutsy actor. Most would be concerened what playing a pedophile might do to their career. Bacon tackles this problem role and shows us just how good an actor he really is. The last person on earth I would feel any compassion for is a pedophile, but Bacon's portrayal is that of a man struggling with an affliction that has already taken 12 years out of his life, and he makes you want to pull for him. Just when you think he may have the problem partially licked we see him weaken. But something happens ( you have to see this ) that gives him a new insight into his sickness and with the help and companionship of his girlfriend ( played by wife, Kyra Sedgwick) we get the feeling that maybe he has a chance at a normal life.
I agree with Nick, that Bacon's performance is in the Oscar category.

Rented it.

Well worth a rental. Scary good but not something I want to rewatch again. I felt dirty sympathizing with the molester.

I just wish it was a longer movie by about another 20-30 min but then again the pacing was real slow
