    Sideways

    Absolutely hilarious!
If you liked "About Schmidt" you'll love this one. Everything about it was spot-on from the casting to the script. I plan on buying it for sure!!! I can easily see how this film should have beaten others like The Aviator.

    :4: out of :5: :T :T

(Not a family movie by the way...)

Reminds me of About Schmidt, but instead of focusing on the crisis of post-retirement life, it focuses on the midlife horror of two guys around their early 40s. One guy is recently divorced, the other getting married. They head off into napa/sonoma for a week and the movie follows their "adventure". Some scenes make you cringe, while others have you busting a lung in laughter (most).

About Schmidt wasn't bad. I've heard good things about this one, and being an appreciator of wine myself, I'll have to watch it sooner or later. I'll probably rent it first.

            Rented and Glad I did.

The two main characters drove me beserk. At the end I simply didn't care. I didn't laugh a whole lot either.

Not a bad film though. I have to say that if they didn't do the wine country bits, I'd probably have turned it off. I simply thought this was wayyyyyyyyyy overrated and shouldn't have been nominated. I know of a few other films that deserved it more.

            7 out of 10. Not something I'd watch a 2nd time.

FWIW, I thought Election was far superior.

Seems as though you pretty much hated the film, yet you give it 7 out of 10. I'd hate to hear what you have to say about a film you rate a 3!

No I didn't hate the film. I just don't wish to watch it again. The acting was good, the story was decent, the characters drove me bonkers. The music etc was all good.

I just watched the movie the other night. The two main characters reminded me of my best friend and my Uncle. I could idnetify with them so I was able to enjoy the movie a lot.

                  I'd say a solid 3-5 stars.

                  Not for everyone indeed.

Finally got around to renting this. Shane, I'm with you, man, those two guys drove me bonkers, too. It was watchable but I wouldn't bother to see it again. Best scene: when they were playing golf and some other players drove into them. What followed was hilarious. Now, about the wine: I got drunk just watching them swill all that stuff.

Watched it over the weekend. I would've enjoyed it more had the trailers not portayed it as a comedy. It was ok but, I found it depressing. The divorced guy just wore me down.

It's been about four months since I even watched a DVD, but today I rented four: Merchant of Venice, Hotel Rwanda, Aviator, and..........................Sideways. Even forgot where all the buttons were on my remote control, it's been so long.

                        Watched Hotel Rwanda today...excellent.

Now, I can't wait for Sideways. Thanks for the review.

                            Hiya George!!! :g> :g>

No, I haven't been around too much of late. I can't really explain much, but there are some things going on that are out of my control.

But, I'm going to try and hang out more. I miss all the folk here.

Just gotta watch some more videos!!!

Loved Sideways in theaters, haven't checked out the DVD. I think I heard something about a good commentary...anyone listen to it?

I only rented it, Sarah, and didn't bother with the commentary, so I'm not sure how good it was.
