    IMAX Nascar

For those of you that want an unbelievable DVD to show your system off with or for you NASCAR dudes, you gotta get a hold of this disc.

I was visiting the ARCAM distribution center last Friday and I took in a few demos in their great showrooms. In one such room, they played an excerpt from this disc....unflippin' real. The sonics, in glorious 7.1, were simply and utterly astonishing.

If you truly want to FEEL you are behind the wheel then go out and rent or buy this disc. I am still utterly speechless about it.

I have only been able to find this movie in full screen edition, has anyone seen this movie in widescreen or is FS the only way this movie can be seen?

The IMAX movies are filmed in a native 4:3 format. If an IMAX is widescreen, then it's been cropped - ala Super Speedway's Mach II re-issue.

Rather ironic, isn't it? Pretty much the greatest video format out there, and it's 4:3.

I hope you're not suggesting that IMAX opposes technical change.

As far as projecting an image goes, we're on the bleeding edge. NOTHING can touch us. We can use full HD images as thumbnails. :T

                  btw...glad you dug NASCAR.

Spiff, why the 4:3 format then? Is that the only format that works with your technology of filming?

The IMAX 65mm negative frame is 4:3. Simple as that.

The DMR films (repurposed Hollywood films) retain their original aspect ratios. Batman Begins will be 2.40:1 whether you see it in 35mm or IMAX. In IMAX they'll be "letterboxed", which in a dark theatre you'll never notice, and is still a LOT bigger than any 35mm theatre.

I really can't say much more about it. Just go see it in IMAX. You won't be dissapointed.

The full 4:3 screen will not be filled with image. The top and bottom of the screen will be black. Batman Begins is a 2.40:1 aspect ration film. The IMAX screen is 4:3.

A weekend alone with my 11 year old son, coupled with crappy weather, led to a big movie-going weekend last weekend. He loved Cars 3, Pirates 5 and the 5th robot movie.

Cars 3--better than 2 and well worth the viewing if you're a fan of the first one. Gets back to McQueen as the central...

For the first time since the shutdown in March, I ventured to a cinema to see Tenet two weeks ago. I'm a huge Christopher Nolan fan and always try to catch his films at our local real IMAX 15/70 venue since he shoots so much of his footage with IMAX cameras. Was a bit unusual, to say the least. The...
