    Troy

Liked it and hated it. Brad Pitt did an awesome job playing Achilles, but I thought Orlando Bloom was poorly casted. The soundtrack was terrible! It sounds as if they started with the scores from Gladiator, and horribly warped them into manure. The fight scenes were a definite plus. I'll keep it for some of the great Achilles scenes, but it's definetly a DVD you can pass over.

    :3: out of :5:

Nick, you're a bit more forgiving than I am. Troy rated a (generously, I think) :25: out of :5: for me. It had potential, but it felt like the only person really trying to get something out of their role was Eric Bana.

This movie was very disappointing probably since I had a high expectations. Aside from mildly amusing fight scenes, this movie offered nothing. The story deviated a lot from the original story by Homer. Brad Pitt did a pretty good job considering the lousy scripts. Eric Bana also did his part. Overall, this is a strictly a rental unless you really like to buy it for the battle scene.
      Victory Shall Be Mine!!! :heh:

I had low expectations and it didn't meet them. What an awful waste of talent this was.

This could have been sooooooooooooo much better. The set design and art direction was great but the rest of the movie was terrible.

I thought it was a great movie! Orlando Bloom plays his part as a wimp so convincingly that it is difficult to discern whether he is performing badly or that he really is the spineless, truly naive person with whom you can’t really sympathise. Let's be honest: if he were to play with the same mentality as Legolas he would be out of place.

Yes, the movie did make me feel uneasy at times, but I thought it to be one of its qualities. The fight scene between Bana and Pitt really put me on the edge of my seat :E (almost forgot to breathe!).

I do agree however, that the music was appalling. This guy Horner doesn't seem to be able to get rid of his typical themes (at first I thought I was watching "enemy at the gates"!). But that is actually my main criticism. I did have the advantage of seeing this movie while preparing myself for the worst(based on the fact that not to many people and reviewers liked this movie), so perhaps that was helpful also.

I'm going to rent it. More out of curiosity than anything. Haven't really read much good about this film anywhere.

It was still a good movie and very entertaining, especially if you like the genre. Don't let all the negative reviews scare you away.

Do you really think they could fit the whole trojan war in less than 2.5 hours and still have the same quality as LOTR? No...

Over the years, i've learned to ignore the film critics. Sometimes I agree, most of the time I don't.

Granted, I agree with the other poster about the music selection, too remiscent of gladiator. Could have been a little more original there.

This movie was terrible. It was put together for one reason and that was to make a quick dollar. Hollywood knows that we're all suckers for big time epic films and this was one. The film's entire score WAS Gladiator. I'm not going to look her name up, but those songs are recorded by the same chick. The fight scenes were unbelievably boring..they had nothing compared to greats like Braveheart & Gladiator.
Brad Pitt saw a gold mine and possible Oscar Nomination and it all resulted in a bad decision. The script was poorly put together and the acting was really weak, it wasn't very convincing there was a war going on. Everyone was way to relaxed about it.
This movie dosen't come close to the story telling epics like Braveheart & Gladiator and I believe will never sit among the two in the Oscar ranks.

I agree with you Polk, its definately not in the same league as Braveheart. Then again, not many movies are!

But it was still enjoyable to watch.

I'm not terribly surprised the same person did the music for both movies...it definately shows!

Just viewed it today, the overall story did not maintain my interest. I certainly enjoyed Achilles played by Brad Pitt, but overall the movie only rates a rental.

                    No awards for this movie.

                    2 stars out of 5.

                    Regards,

I thought Brad Pitt was cast well. His naturally aggressive and cocky attitude was a plus. He also got in pretty good shape to play the part. The initial one-stroke battle in greece, the siege on the Troy shore, and the sequence with Hector were all good. Paris and Helen were both cast wrong. Agamemnon and Menelaus were cast well. It's just a shame they didn't properly cast some of the key figures. And it's not like they didn't have a big enough budget.

I enjoyed the soundtrack to Gladiator. The Troy soundtrack was a horrible attempt to create a "same but different" score. It was terrible enough that at some scenes in the film I found myself distracted by it.

One of those films where I really enjoyed some scenes, and then some made me shake my head in disgust. Having read The Iliad in high school, I would have certainly edited some scenes, and added others. The biggest fault was the forced neccessity (by Hollywood) to make this a block-buster, when The Iliad is just as much a drama and romance as an epic skull-crushing story.

Did anyone notice Brads move when he goes in for the kill, he jumps sideways.      he could be a good soccer player,"Is there anyone else!!!!" , I swear I could've heard the gay guys watching close to us wincing and moaning. :E :E :E :E :E, Brad should stick to "Seven" "Kalifornia" "12 MONKEYS" like part, he would do better. :W Take a lesson from Harrison Ford that "Indy" does not mesh well with "Hollywood Homicide" :E :E :E

Well I've seen worse. I did like the battle scenes. Bought it used and I will likely watch it again sometime.

There is something about the filming or the feel of this show that I very much liked, or wanted to like. What really got me was the character of Orlando Bloom, it really annoyed me to no end :M I suppose thats a sign that he played his role well. I don't remember my history well, however I found the premise that these 2 factions would war so hard over the love of 2 people, utterly silly. However what do I know?

I was entertained, and if this DVD was found for <$10, I would consider it depending on my mood.

If I recall correctly, Bloom's character ( Paris) was a much more heroic figure in the European film HELEN OF TROY. Paris was played by Jaques Serenas and looked very much the hero compared to the cowardly (?) Paris in TROY.
