Congratulations! You have a real treat ahead watching all three Lord of the Rings (LOTR) extended editions (EEs) and the incredible array of supplemental materials. Are you planning a movie "marathon" to enjoy all of them in one pass, or will you spread them out over a longer period of time?

I already had two-thirds of it before this week, having bought the "Fellowhip" and "Two Towers" EEs when they first came out. But I had to wait as long as you did to finish off my EE trilogy.

The picture is stunningly clear, with excellent color rendition and the sound is sensational. In other words, exactly what we came to expect with the other EEs. Thanks goodness the quality has been sustained for this last installment.

When Return of the King was first released theatrically, we had the opportunity in Houston to either view the first two EEs in one of the prime local commercial theaters during the two weeks prior to Return's premiere, or to watch both of them the same day as the premiere, thus getting all three (first two EEs and the theatrical cut of Return) in one sitting. I opted to spread them out, but I did see all three in that two week period.

As great as the DVD looks, I kind of wish I had the opportunity to see the final EE on the REALLY big screen. But I'll take what I can get, and it looks like we've gotten a lot with this new EE (including a reason to be grateful for the Pause button to be able to take a relief break now and then). >)

These three EEs really are the definitive LOTR collection, and it sure looks awesome to see the whole set spread out like that -- uber cool.

    Enjoy!

We got the gift box with the Minas Tirith statuette and the extra DVD about the concert tour of the soundtrack with Howard Shore. Both EEs come with an insert which offers a $5 rebate for proof of purchase of the regular version for buyers of the standard EE, $10 for the gift box, and an offer for the 3 EE box to put your separately purchased EEs into, as shown in monsieur Spoon's post above for $3.

Going to watch this weekend while trying out my new "de-pixelizing" lens attachment on the PJ.

I watched parts of the 3rd one. Great PQ and SQ(especially the DTS track).

I'd say the PQ is better than the first 2. I already own the first 2 EE's so this one was a no brainer.

Also the slipcase pictured above is free by mail with $3 shipping. The free offer is in the package.

Place your order online via CC. Easy. The route by mail is a major PITA.

David -- you'd better place your order for the slipcase NOW since "supplies are limited". I've sent you a PM with the online instructions.

Had to laugh at the following from the insert describing the offer:

Please allow 8 - 10 weeks for delivery.
I know that's pretty standard, but even with a week mailing time each direction, it seems in this day and age, three weeks tops should do it.

                Also, they helpfully point out:

Slipcase offer DOES NOT include DVDs. DVDs are sold separately.
Duh! Do they really think anyone would expect $80 worth of DVDs for three bucks? I guess they had to say it (and online they repeat it several times and make you check a box acknowledging that you understand the point) , since SOMEONE would try to sue them otherwise.

                Here's another kicker:

Limited time offer valid until March 31, 2005 or while supplies last. Quantities are limited. Limit one slipcase per address. Artwork subject to change.
So you'd better hurry if you want to be sure you'll get one, If you bought a second set, I guess you can have the second box sent to your office. And the artwork might be for King Kong by the time they get around to shipping them. :>)

                Enjoy!

                Burke

                                  Thanks

                                  Thanks Lewing for that link.

Of course I had already purchased FOTR EE and TTW EE before picking up ROTK EE, so I was overwhelmed with childish jealousy when I saw that neat cardboard case in Walmart containing all three. Just ordered it for $3!

BTW, I thought all three films were phenomenal. FOTR EE was my favorite out of the three. This will most definetly be an epic that teenagers 20 years from now will watch like I did with Star Wars.

I'm just waiting for Peter Jackson to make "The Hobbit".
Can't imagine what frequencies Smaugs footsteps would troll from the depths of DTS. "strong... strong... STRONG!!!".
I'll settle for the cartoon version for now...

:45: out of :5: For All Three
