Not At the Movies?

According to CNN story, Pierce Brosnan, the man the women affectionately call James Bond has quit. He will be Bond, James Bond no more, it's behind him, in the past, bloody well over. Well, maybe that's so, or maybe it's jut a ploy for more bucks for the man with the Golden Gun. (and anything else gold he wants) Let's face it, the studio raked it in on the last 4 bond films. who could blame James (Pierce) for wanting Bucks Galore? I can't imagine he really wants to quit. What actor wouldn't want to be an idol, a star of real iconic proportion, leaving a legacy, if not his own, at least partly his own.

Well, let's hope they are wrong, that Bond, James Bond will be back, wooing the women, and having his wicked way with bad guys. Pierce did a great job as Bond. I'd rather much hoped to have 7-8 Bond films with him as star. We got a ways to go for that...

Heard this morning on the radio... I wouldn't doubt that he doesn't want to be "just" Bond and wants to do more stuff to differntiate himself from the roll. Though I also wouldn't doubt he wants more money :lol:

I seem to remember him mentioning that he was getting close to quitting a year or 2 ago.

I suppose an it's double-edge sword if an actor gets typecast as it affects their growth and ability to persue other roles. Look at Roger Moore, I think he had a hard time doing anything else after he finished the Bond Roles. Sean Connery beat the stigma.

I guess Pierce doesn't want to spend his formative years playing a famous British spy. I don't necessarily fault him for this thinking...but I agree he's a wicked Bond and it would be nice if he reconsiders.

True but for me Brosnan has always been bond...his role in Remington Steele was very Bond like and for me long ago established his stereotypical role.

I'd really miss him if he doesn't come back for at least one more...but if not lets hope they do something different with the plot and either go to a yung bond just starting out or at the very least make them darker.

I seem to be one of the few who has no use for Brosnan as Bond. He just seems totally unfit for the role physically to me, and the Remington Steele angle actually finishes him off, as that always struck me as a little to light hearted a show to compare to the Bond world.

Also seem to be in the minority who thought Dalton was really good though. Even liked Lazenbee (sp?) better. Never liked Moore much and, of course, due to my age, Connery WAS Bond.

I think bond has become too mainstream,the scripts arent the same anymore,it used to be bonds nemesis were more that just madmen they had an intellegents beyond (lets just nuke everthing) or terrorize everyone.

The movies are becoming like the politics of today and less about the "fantasy world" that bond was with the likes of blofeld and spector.

For me, there is only one Bond and that's Connery. He had a mixture of social sophistication and animal brutality.

My favorite Bond films are the early ones that followed Fleming's books. Later on, they seemed to use very little or none of the book, sometimes only the title.

Brandon mentioned Lazenby. On Her Majesty's Secret Service followed Fleming's book wonderfully. It is my favorite Bond film. And..................
it had Diana Rigg, who I long for to this day from her role in The Avengers.

Well, thinking about people I'd consider good replacements, I came up with the following pair:

Jason Statham
Clive Owen

My daughter's Entertainment Weekly had an article listing Eric Bana, Hugh Jackman, Clive Owen and someone I've never heard of - Ioan Gruffudd. Eric Bana? Maybe, although I'm not sure of the accent. Hugh Jackman? Nope. I like him a lot, but I just don't see him as James Bond. Ioan Gruffudd? One, he looks like he's about 14 and, two, I can't imagine ANYONE with "fudd" in their name playing James Bond - I'd be sitting there thinking "Elmer". :

Michael Madsen would be an interesting Bond, but the accent would likely be missing. I just wish Madsen had a better agent. He gets too much bad material. He is a better actor than many would believe.

What about Gerard Butler? He was in Tomb Raider 2 (not a great movie or roll) but atleast he has a toughness to him not seen since Connery was bond in the first 3 films. He also wouldn't have to fake the accent.

I am also in the minority thinking that Dalton was a decent bond. He was just saddled with bad scripts but he was tough just as Connery was. Moore and Brosnan are too soft and a bit cartoon like (especially Moore).

Yep, Moore was the cartoon Bond - no doubt about it. True, Dalton was saddled with mediocre scripts, but I still never really bought into him as Bond. Brosnan, at least to me, does have more of a "hardness" to him than Dalton or Lazenby did - although the scripts he's had to work with aren't that strong either. My Bond-list from fav to least is:
