    Star Wars movies in 3D

    Being released, starting 2012:

First George Lucas took us to a galaxy far, far away, and now he's journeying into another dimension: The filmmaker is re-releasing the entire "Star Wars" saga in 3-D.

Sources tell the Hollywood Reporter that plans to bring Luke Sykwalker, Darth Vader, and R2D2 into the 3-D world have been in the works for years, though Lucas held off until enough 3-D screens were available in movie theaters to make it a major event.

Industrial Light & Magic is reportedly overseeing the 3-D conversion, and, according to a statement by visual effects supervisor John Knoll obtained by Deadline.com, "We will take our time, applying everything we know both aesthetically and technically to bring audiences a fantastic new Star Wars experience."

In other words, get ready to dodge laser beams, space debris – and Jar Jar Binks.

The first of the movies, "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace," is set for release in 2012, according to the Hollywood Reporter, with the remaining films rolling out in order at the same time in consecutive years.

Well, the 3D will be Blu-Ray based so that'll kill two birds with one stone. Although having to wait until 2015 for the "original" (Episode IV) is a bit of a downer.

He's seriously going to take six years to release it??? Geez.

I KNOW... we have to wait until 2017 just to get all 6 movies in the THEATER, much less finally get Star Wars on Blu-Ray? Of ANY kind? :wtf:

Banker to George Lucas: Shall we increase the size of the money vault, sir ?

3D indeed. Well, he won't be getting my money.

Do you guys not read the news at all? Box set of blu-rays will be out in a year:

Explore the Star Wars movies, from The Phantom Menace to The Last Jedi, Rogue One, and Solo -- with clips, behind the scenes videos, and more!

You have to buy all 6 though.

I am not particularly enthusiastic about the 3D thing. Unless it's done well andused more for depth (i.e. Avatar), pretty much just annoys me.

Oh yeah? Cool, B. Hadn't heard that.

I agree about the 3D thing in general. I'm not a big fan.

                  Nah. Just the links posted.

This is great! I'll get my Blu-Ray boxed-set and won't have to wait 6 years for it. Whew.

The upside is the new material. We'll supposedly see more stuff on the Wampa attacks in Echo base, Luke stuffing his just-completed new lightsaber into R2 before sending him off to Jabba's palace, and other unseen deleted stuff.

I myself cannot hide from Star Wars news. Anything I don't read about myself is emailed to me by friends and family due to my "problem".

... but is it really a "problem"?

Very cool, hadn't heard about even more new material.

                              Good 'un, Kevin.

Tex, the funny thing is, the Yoda pic supposedly is an actual 3D picture, if you have stereoscopic glasses.

I hadn't seen this but I was going to post that there is no way Lucas would miss selling 2D BD's first and then re-release the 3D discs a couple years later

As for me...still not sold on 3D until I don't have to wear glasses.

Yeah, I could get in some trouble with a holodeck. (or maybe the point is, you wouldn't actually get in TROUBLE, since it's just holograms)

Star Wars BD's are now available for pre-order on Amazon. I can't resist. I'm buying all 6.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

I was going to as well...then I tried watching the prequels again the other day. I can't get through them.

I just can't get over the acting, the script, and Jar Jar Binks. It's too painful.

It's a shame the prequels weren't done to the standards of the sequels...

I can't stand episodes I-III.. the director trying to use humor in it was so gawdy. It felt like the prequels were targeted for an audience with an average age of 7
