Have been looking forward to this one, and the commercials were looking good at first. However, it's now reached a level of over-advertising, and some lame ads at that, that make me apprehensive about the quality of the movie. After "Godzilla", I've become VERY wary of movies that are way over-hyped, with Happy meal toys and what-not, before the flick is even released. Iron Man 2 seems in danger of this.

I'm in Japan... no over-hype. But shhhh... don't talk about it. You may jinx it and make the movie suck. ha ha haB&W 804S/Velodyne SPL-1000R/Anthem MRX720- Bottom

This movie was very enjoyable - I'm not about ready to toss an Oscar at it, but it's definitely money well spent. The ex-wife had the whole theater looking at me because I had a laughing attack and couldn't stop for about 3 minutes.
Did anybody else see the incredible resemblance to Mobile Dolls from Gundam Wing? It was mindblowing.
Oh, and Chris - I don't watch TV, I haven't seen a single advertisement for the movie - muahahaha!-Josh

Wasn't too impressed with the movie. Effects were cool but I thought the storyline was pretty weak. Not to mention the impracticality of the "bad guy's" whip things. I mean like what happens if it snaps back at you and takes off a leg?- Bottom

So you're cool with the practicality of a briefcase size armor suit, powered by an arc reactor, and capable of flight though right?Originally posted by its_bacon12Not to mention the impracticality of the "bad guy's" whip things. I mean like what happens if it snaps back at you and takes off a leg?

Ever seen what someone that is good with a bullwhip can do? Just watched it on IMAX. Enjoyable, but the IMAX experience on this one wasn't a "must".
Bottom line, good movie, it was worth going to see, but I wasn't overwhelmed. The overall plot, directing, and editing was somewhat disjointed, not putting together a clearly coherent story and piece of work. A couple scenes were odd or awkward, like Piper shrugging off Mr. Hammer in the convention's control room at the end of the movie, after Mr. Hammer is found out to have cooperated with the bad guys, telling him "don't... just don't. The intro scene with Stark/Iron Man dropping in on the convention presentation with fireworks and cheerleaders also just "doesn't quite work". GREAT cameo though, (as always) of Stan Lee in this one as Larry King. I even thought the mega battle scene of Iron Man and War Machine battling the droid mechs in the park could have been much better done, although there was about a 5 second shot of War Machine sweeping his arms with guns blazing full-out, Iron Man behind him fighting the other direction, that was KICK A$$.
Yes, Scarlett Johannsen is HOT HOT HOT. :boobies: But even she isn't effectively utilized in the firlm.
Again, good, not great. Nowhere near as bad as I feared it was going to be, from the commercialism over-hype and Happy Meal toys, but also not nearly as good as it could have been. Worth seeing in the theater, and I'll end up buying it, but I won't be in any big hurry. Probably wait for the big Iron Man BD mega-set that will eventually come out, or the Avenger mega-pack that probably will also come to be.

How is Scarlett not effectively used in this film? She has never looked this good in her entire career imho.-Josh

I've got to come in at :35: out of :5:. Overall it was fun, fun, fun with more depth shown in the sidestories for Stark and Pepper (yea!). It's a well done sequel to the first movie and doesn't disappoint with respect to the first. Great CGI and overall PQ, with excellent color saturation and detail. The sound was immersive with tons of directional cues and should be truly awesome (several different scenes offer situations to sonically die for) on the Blu-Ray. The two major things that kept the movie from scoring higher were the roles of Senator Stern, played by Garry Shandling and arms magnate Justin Hammer, played by Sam Rockwell. I just could not help seeing Stern as Garry Shandling playing a senator. Every time he was on screen it took me out of the moment. This was a very poor casting choice IMO. Sam Rockwell just comes off as goofy in his role as the "mastermind (?)" behind the Hammer armaments conglomerate. He definitely has the chops to have done something more with this part and I question the way it played out on screen. On a more positive note, I really enjoy Robert Downey and Gwyneth Paltrow in their roles. When watching both films, I do see Tony Stark and Pepper Potts and empathize with their situations. Mickey Rourke is fantastic as Ivan Vanko - the guy just oozes danger when he's in the right role. For what it's worth, yes Scarlett Johansson is hot enough to melt bricks and is shown off well in her action scenes, but otherwise she felt a bit out of sync with the rest of the movie.
Overall it was everything I was hoping for and will be viewed at home with pleasure once it's here. I do think if they'd corrected the Shandling casting and the Rockwell approach to Hammer this would have been an easy :45:. Oh well, I'll still be ordering the Blu-Ray as soon as it's available..

I found the movie to be seriously flawed. Why would the world's villians simply not look to take iron man out when he was not in his suit, now that the know his true identity. Furthermore, why would iron man not kill micky rork when he first attacked him, knowing that he was a threat? And the things that scarlett johanson did...those leg neck tackles....just silly. Hot, but silly.Sharp LC-42D64U

If I was going to be taken out by Scarlett Johansson when she's dressed in a body suit, I'd really want it to be a leg neck tackle, too. :yesnod:.

Because then it wouldn't be a superhero movie. :BOriginally posted by kripsWhy would the world's villians simply not look to take iron man out when he was not in his suit
Cause then he would go to jail. In the first Iron-Man, they said in the news that there were rumors, not facts, about what happened at Starks Enterprise. So Tony Starks couldn't have gone to jail even after his secret identity was revealed cause there was no proof.Originally posted by kripsFurthermore, why would iron man not kill micky rork when he first attacked him, knowing that he was a threat?

Scarlett was bad ass in this movie! I actually liked the way they played her role. She was a silent character... staying behind the scene like Black Widow actually does until needed. I was a bit surprised. The story was a bit different than I expected, but it was a fun movie! The big fight scene sounded awesome too!B&W 804S/Velodyne SPL-1000R/Anthem MRX720- Bottom

by madmacI decided to rent the Blu ray version of this film for it's kick Ass sound presentation but alas......this film falls short. It's certainly the most awkward Iron Man I've seen to date. It never really gets off the ground. It's not horrible but I expected better.

by Chris DInteresting... never thought of Robert Downey, Jr as a superhero. Looks interesting, though. Just hope it doesn't turn out to be a stinker like other superhero movies.
Looks like they licensed Ozzy's "Ironman" song.
