    Snl

There must be some other SNL fans (or lapsed fans) on here... I still like it. Seth Meyers, Amy Poehler, and Tina Fey are my favorites in the current cast...they generally are pretty funny. What are people's favorite skits over the years?

I'm an "early days" fan. John Belushi, Chevy Chase, etc... My favorite skits are any of the Samurai ones with Belushi. ROFLMAO!

I go right back to the beginning of SNL and continue to watch it every Saturday night without fail. Like Sarah, I also like Amy and Tina, but I really long for some of the better stuff they did in the early days. Every now and then, though, they have a big winner and one not too long ago was a real hoot: the time Robert Deniro hosted the show. I laughed my ass off.

I caught one when Matt Damon hosted a few nights ago which was a great one...everyone seemed to be on their game that week.

I also think SNL is often at its best when taking on politics...amazing how the show can get you to laugh at both parties even if you lean one way or the other.

Yes, Sarah, the Matt Damon one was a goodie, too. And you are right about SNL when they do politics.

I wish Tina Fey was in more of the skits, too.

SNL still has some good moments here and there, but for me, it isn't a reliable hour and a half of fun anymore... I usually fall asleep about ten minutes past the intro, and that's on Sunday afternoon during a time-shifted replay! :>)

I used to watch it faithfully every week for years, in fact. The early years were simply unbelievlable (Garrett Morris "basaball been berry berry good to me") and thought that the "Point/Counterpoint" ("Jane, you ignorant slut") skewered the news magazine shows perfectly. Just about any skit with guest host Elliot Gould was dynamite (especially when he tried to cast the musical "Gigi" in a prison).

I always howled at Eddie Murphy's skits and found Phil Hartman to be one of the most versatile and effective comic performers in any skit. Dana Carvey "was" the Church Lady and the first George Bush... and earlier, Martin Short was inspired in his lunacy.

But right about the time Will Ferrell showed up, I started tuning out and for a couple of years I spent my Saturday nights enjoying live comedy at clubs here in Houston. These days I typically tune in SNL for the opening skit and guest host intro and then find something else to do (like surf the 'net) until the musical guests perform.

It is certainly amazing the lasting star power the show had initially. Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Dan Akroyd, John Belushi, Jane Curtain, Gilda Radner. Amazing bunch. There were several star powers to come after that like Murphy. But the initial bunch were the "Not ready for Primetime Players". Yeah, they still have their moments. But overall, you can loose interest week to week, as I did, many years ago. But not in the early days, I was there for every Killer Christmas Tree episode, every Samuri skit, and lots more.

There have been many over the years that truly make me belly-laugh but the one person, regardless of character, that without fail made me laugh (and still does via reruns, dvd, etc., is Gilda Radner.

Guest Host Alec Baldwin has had some hoot moments too!

Yeah, Jimmy, Baldwin's dry humor style is always a hoot.
And I'll second what you said about Gilda. A true comedienne who left us far too soon.

Agreed about Gilda...I saw the SNL First 5 years show that was on tv a while back and she was so fun to watch.

Alec Baldwin has had some good hosting moment. I also think Christopher Walken is an excellent host...especially the classic cowbell sketch!

A parody of Blue Oyster Cult and Christopher Walken was their producer.

I'll try to track it down on the Web.

                            In the meantime, enjoy this:

This past Saturday night featured the best of Christopher Walken. The cow bell skit was included. Will Farrell was hilarious as the cow bell performer. The entire show was a hoot.

Fey is an unmarried, infertile businesswoman who hires Poehler ( a trailer trash type ) to have her child after artificial insemination. For me, the stark differences between...
